Mind, Body, Spirit: Holistic Approaches to Aging

43nd

Annual Conference of the State Society on Aging of New York

President’s Welcome

It is my pleasure to welcome you the 43rd Annual Conference of the State Society on Aging of New York (SSA-NY) and it is my honor and privilege to serve as the President of the Society this year. Through the dedication and hard work of SSA’s program committee, led by President-Elect and Program Chair Mary Ann Erickson, as well as so many of our board members, we are pleased to present a program featuring outstanding speakers and workshops on a wide range of aging issues centering around this year’s theme, “Mind, Body, Spirit: Holistic Approaches to Aging.” This theme reminds

us of the many facets of older adults and what we as professionals gain from their wisdom. This conference promises to offer cutting edge topics in the field that will highlight research and innovative projects that enrich and support older adults’ minds, bodies, and spirit. I would like to especially thank the Board for their support and commitment - not only to this organization, but to improving the lives of older adults within New York State. A special thank you must be extended to the immediate past-president Mary Beth Morrissey and to Karen Dybing for all of their hard work for SSA. Finally, it is with pride that the Society recognizes this year’s award recipients –Janna Heyman, PhD, Robert Blancato, MPA, and Susan Perlstein, CSW for their outstanding contributions to promoting the well-being of older adults and the field of aging. A special congratulations to our student award winners – Kristen E. Porter, University of Massachusetts (graduate student award) and Brian Pulling, Ithaca College (undergraduate student award). On behalf of SSA, our very best wishes for an engaging conference experience! Best regards, Tobi A. Abramson, PhD President
