    NOVEMBER 2009 SPEAKERS

    SPEAKER BIO

    Lee Dawson

With more than 25 years in Quality and ProductDevelopment, Lee has provided training and con-sultation services since 1987. As CEO ofQUALITY ASSOCIATES INTERNATIONAL, Leecurrently provides expertise and direction forProduct Development Design Activities, QualityFunction Deployment (QFD) and Failure Modeand Effects Analysis (FMEA) for companiessuch as Ford Motor Company, Caterpillar, Alza,Daimler Chrysler and many others. Lee regularlyprovides consulting in industries such asAutomotive, Medical Devices and Drug Delivery,Retail products, Mining / Heavy Machinery,Banking and services sectors businesses.

The training approach taken by Lee is hard hittingand often times humorous. He believes thatQuality Discipline training does not have to beboring and as such he tries to bring a lively, comedic atmosphere to the classroom usingexamples based on past experiences. He hastraveled to Asia, Australia, Europe, and SouthAmerica to teach, advise and provide engineering services.

Lee’s formal education is in MetallurgicalEngineering Mathematics. He is a CertifiedQuality and Reliability Engineer. A senior memberof ASQ, SAE, AIAG and several other organiza-tions charged with continuous improvement in thequality tools. Lee is a Six Sigma Master BlackBelt, specialist in Design for Six SigmaDeployment. An avid diver and pilot, Lee knowsthe importance of Reliability and discipline toensure excellence. He has written many articlesfor publications such as Quality Digest andQuality Magazine. Lee’s experience includesDesign Engineering in Automotive ChassisSystems, Medical Devices, Assemblies, Militaryapplications and Transactional Systems. He hasalso co-authored a recently released book calledFMEA in Design, Manufacture and Service orMurphy’s Law Revisited.

Each supply chain decision made in globalsourcing has an impact on each of these threemeasures. Failing to understand the potential risksand ramifications of each measure, as well as howthey interact together, can lead to undesirableconsequences. Success, therefore, hinges on thedeployment of a Supply Chain ManagementProcess, which measures QCT in terms of risk(substitute for failure) and mitigation (action toprevent failure).

A proven model for Supply Chain Managementincludes five concurrent and maturing phaseswhere risk can be measured and reduced withrespect to QCT. The 5 phases are:

    • Strategy• Engagement• Collaboration• Demonstration• Replication

This discussion will explore each of thesephases of Supply Chain Management withexamples of how risk measurement and riskmitigation are used in each phase to improve thelikelihood of success.

Please continue to shareyour comments and suggestions as to how we canimprove your dinner meeting experience. I strive tofollow through on each recommendation provided.
