The 12th Annual Millmerran
Sheep Races will once again
be held at the local Showgrounds
on the last Saturday in August, the
29th, with an exciting new twist! This
year’s event has a Mexican theme,
so dust off your sombrero and join
the fi esta! Bring your family, friends
and colleagues along to enjoy this
fun family day out. Gates open
at 11:00am with free entry, and it
promises to be an action-packed,
memorable day.
The Millmerran Sheep Races,
proudly brought to you again this
year by the Mill Inn Tavern, promises
racing with a difference! We have
a six-race meet commencing at
1:00pm, starting with the Knight’s
Electrical Services classic. Following
this will be races sponsored by
Macquarie Wagyu, Glenmar Fuels, TL
& SF Vary, CMEFU, and Scott Folker
Plumbing and Gas. Buy your tickets
at the Farm Fresh Beef Cuts betting
arena, drawn from the Foodworks
Millmerran ticket barrel, for your
chance to win cash prizes. You can
also purchase tickets to go in the
draw to win a fantastic variety of
prizes in our super-draw raffl e, and
this year’s Lucky Door Prize winner
will be treated to a relaxing weekend
away at Mooloolaba’s Newport
Apartments.
The specially bred sheep, including
favourites such as Ewe-Sain Bolt
and Britney Shears, begin their race
down the track at the SizeCo starting
gate with their securely fi tted teddy
bear jockeys, battling it out to cross
the ADL Equipment fi nish line fi rst.
The day culminates with the
Downer EDI Commodore Calcutta,
where the fi rst two place-getters
from each race hoof it out in the
fi nal. The feverish pitch of expert
race-caller Mark Droney and the
enthusiastic cheering of the crowd
make for an exciting photo fi nish.
Purchase an armband for the kids
so they can enjoy a whole day of
fun in the kids’ entertainment area.
There will be an assortment of new
entertainment options available,
including the ever-popular laser
skirmish, merry-go-round, giant slide,
and the Batman Challenge infl atable
castle. This year, entry to the popular
animal nursery will be free, thanks
to the generosity of Judd Bros.
Contracting and St Joseph’s School.
Millmerran IGA will provide free face
painting and balloon art by Blossom
the Clown.
Feed the family an outback BBQ
expertly cooked by the Millmerran
Lions Club, or choose from a variety
of refreshments at the Shearers’
Kitchen. If you prefer the fi ner things
in life, enjoy yourself by relaxing in
the Millmerran Power Partners wine
marquee. Socialise whilst sipping on
a selection of wines, or experience a
touch of Mexican with a margarita!
Back by popular demand this year
is celebrity cook Lee Faulkner, who
will again delight the crowd with his
cooking demonstrations, sponsored
by Carinloch Cabinets.
Explore new trends in the fashion
parade, brought to you by local
fashion house, Maylee Boutique.
Be sure to come dressed in your
racing best, as the Millmerran
Power Fashions on the Field is hotly
contested with great prizes to be
won, including best dressed male
and female, contemporary male and
female, and best hat. Strike a pose
in the Sheep Races photo booth,
another exciting addition to this
year’s event.
Also sure to entertain is the
hilarious foot-race, the Toowoomba
Solar Centre Welly Waddle, where
contestants in colourful wellington
boots race down a Mexican-inspired
obstacle course with a full glass of
beer. The winners, competing for
prize money, are not necessarily fi rst
across the line…
The Millmerran Power Partners
bar is open from 11:00am and the
beer will fl ow until midnight. After
the Downer Calcutta fi nal, the sheep
retire and you can stick around to
enjoy dinner and drinks along with
fantastic musical entertainment by
a DJ, who is sure to get the party
started!
Powered sites are available at
the Showgrounds for caravans and
campervans for a $15 fee (contact
Jim Twidale on 0427957176). If
you are keen for a more authentic
camping experience, pitch a tent or
roll out your swag for free. There will
also be a courtesy bus running again
this year.
The
success
of the
Millmerran
Sheep
Races is
owed to the
dedicated
band of
volunteers who
work tirelessly to
coordinate this event, the generous
support of our sponsors, and the
attendance of race-goers who come
from near and far to enjoy the
hospitality that our small town has
to offer.
All in all, the 2015 annual
Millmerran Sheep Races promises to
be a day to remember!
