Pastoral Care

God has blessed us by

leading Linda Heesch to

Millard Community

Covenant Church. Linda

recently moved to this

area to be near her

daughter, son-in-law, and

grandchildren; Ashleigh,

Corey, Emilie and Dean

Bruns.

Linda approached the

Church Board and of-

fered to share her spiri-

tual gift in pastoral care

with Millard Church.

The Church Board was

grateful for Linda’s offer.

Linda has contacted and/

or visited many of our

church family members

and friends who have

been on our prayer list..

She has been preparing

to transition into the

primary contact person

for our church family to

reach out to for prayer

requests and pastoral

care, during this time

that the church does not

have a full-time pastor.

Linda has been, and will

continue to be, in close

communication with Pas-

tor Dave, Pastor Lyle,

Sharon and Peggy to

meet the needs of our

church family.

You may contact Linda

with you pastoral care

requests via email:

[email protected]

According to your wishes,

Linda will keep your re-

quests confidential or

share them. “Sharing”

may be inclusion in the

church bulletin and/or

newsletter or an email

distribution to the church

family.

You may continue to

email requests or leave

phone messages on the

church answering ma-

chine. These will be for-

warded to Linda.

Linda Heesch

After years of experience as a public educator (Secondary and College), Linda Heesch completed

her professional secular career in 2006. With a heart of compassion for people, Linda seeks to obey

the call that God has placed on her heart for the “second-half” of her life to equip and encourage

others to develop a closer walk with the Lord. Linda draws on her personal experience with can-

cer, a chronic illness, childrearing, her career as an educator, and her pastoral ministry to illustrate

the truths she shares.

To fulfill her calling, Linda has served as a mentor and Bible study teacher at her local church. She

has served as the speaker for various camps and retreats from coast to coast; including a camp in

Ontario, Canada. Also, through WorldVenture, she has been endorsed as a missionary where she

served four appointments: one in 2008 in Dakar, Senegal (West Africa) and three in 2010, 2011,

and 2016 in Kampala, Uganda (East Africa).

Most recently, Linda received her M.A. in Chaplaincy from Denver Seminary in May 2015 and

worked as a Senior Chaplain at Presbyterian/St Luke’s Medical Center in Denver, CO.

Pastor Notes– Annual Report

P A G E 2

If you missed the annual meeting

or don't remember what we

said, here’s a summary of our

report to the congregation.

Pastor Sharon: Thank you to

everyone who serves, in small

ways and in big ways. Thanks to

those who serve in ways that no

one sees. Thanks to everyone

who leads, as stepping into lead-

ership is not without risk. Thanks

to everyone who gives financially:

regularly, faithfully, and sacrifi-

cially. Thank you to everyone

who prays: for our family, for the

church, and for those on the

prayer list and for every new

prayer request that comes in.

Prayer counts as doing some-

thing! Finally, thank you for your

presence on Sunday mornings

and whenever else we gather to-

gether to worship or serve. You

never know who may be blessed

by your presence.

Pastor Chris: Since we arrived

last summer, I’ve been paying at-

tention to the special gifts of

Millard Community Covenant

Church. What is it that makes

Millard Church special? What do

we do really well? I’m sure we

could come up with quite a list if

we put our heads together, but I

want to highlight two things that

have stood out to me in these

last several months.

First of all, this is a caring

church. I’ve seen your concern

for one another, your eagerness

to pray for each other and to

send cards and words of encour-

agement to one another. I’ve

seen you visiting those who are

homebound or in the hospital. At

Millard Church I see people who

care.

And you can’t miss how this is

also a giving church. We are a

congregation that serves and

gives back to the communities of

which we are a part. From com-

munity dinners in Elkhorn to pro-

jects like the craft fair and the

GROW project that are able to

benefit community organizations,

from scholarships for our college

students to Mary and Alex

Anderson’s mission trip to the

Dominican Republic, Millard

Church is a congregation invested

in giving, serving, and reaching

out to our community.

I’ve also been thinking about what

qualities we as your pastors want

to help nurture and grow at

Millard Church as we move for-

ward together. Again, this isn’t an

exhaustive list, but three things

stood out to me.

The first is that we might be a

formational church, a church

where we are growing together

closer to God and more like

Christ. We do this through wor-

ship and prayer and learning to-

gether—not just on Sunday

morning, but at home and at

work and at school throughout

the week.

Second, we want to continue to

see Millard Church as a mis-

sional church, where we recog-

nize that we do not simply go to

church on Sunday; instead, we are

the church everyday day of the

week. We’ll continue to reach

out and serve our community,

and we’ll also look for ways to be

a part of God’s work in our daily

lives.

Finally, we want to nurture this

congregation as an intergenera-

tional church, one in which all

ages are valued, welcomed, and

included, and we all grow and

benefit from worshiping together,

serving together, and being a part

of each other’s lives.

Book Study: Everyday Mission Beginning in March,

Pastor Chris will lead a

discussion of A Field

Guide for Everyday Mis-

sion: 30 Days and 101

Ways to Demonstrate

the Gospel by Ben Con-nelly and Bob Roberts,

Jr. The book includes

short, accessible daily

readings, inspiring sto-

ries, and simple, practi-

cal ideas for making

God’s mission a part of

your daily life.

We’ll meet once a

week for six weeks

during Lent. Time and

day will depend on the

group. See Pastor

Chris if you are inter-

ested.

If you don’t get a chance to read letters of thanks on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall, you need to

read this:

The Elkhorn Food Pantry volunteers wrote, in part, “While all of us are susceptible to hard times, children

and the elderly are at the most risk, and they make up the largest number of clients we serve… Please

know that you are helping over 2, 059 households and over 5,209 individuals…”

Sara Nichols of the Open Arms Free Clinic wrote, in part, “Thank you so much for your gift of $1,600

from the GROW project. ...Please know that your gift just provided $16,000-worth of life saving medicine

for our neighbors in need.”

Wow! That’s a good investment!

THANK YOU: GROW PROJECT

Community Dinner

Saturday, January 12th, Millard Community Covenant Church served dinner to around 35

people at the monthly Community Dinner. We served turkey, mashed potatoes, corn,

rolls, cranberry relish, jello and pumpkin pie and other desserts. Pastor Sharon said a

prayer and then we plated and served the meal. Thank you to everyone who helped set up,

serve, cleaned up, made desserts and jello, donated food items and money. We even had

leftovers to give to some of our seniors who were not able to attend. This mission is a

huge commitment that could not be done without everyone’s help. If you have not signed

up to serve we would love to see you help at the next dinner on July 13th. Ask Andrea,

Elinor and Eddie Rohloff about their first experience helping out or any of the other 12 repeat helpers. Janet Muzatko
