LOCATION

Military College of Engineering (MCE) is located in Risalpur right next to Pakistan Air Force Academy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province. It is located at about 130 KM from Islamabad and about 40 KM from Peshawar accessible via G.T road (N5) and Motorway (M1). Risalpur is situated at 34°4’52N 71°58’21E in a basin about 1014 feet above sea level, bounded on the south and west by the Kabul and Kalpani rivers, respectively. MCE

HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE MCE was given Self Degree Awarding status in year 1962, which was a singular honor for an

Army School of Instructions at that time

■ School of Military Engineering (SME) was established at Sialkot in 1948. ■ In 1952, it was shifted from Sialkot to Risalpur and developed into full-fledged engineering institution. ■ School name changed from SME to College of Military Engineering (CME) in 1957 and later on Military College

of Engineering (MCE) in 1959. ■ In 1988, MCE started postgraduate programs by affiliating MS Transportation with NED University, and MS

Structural Engg & MS Geotech Engg with UET Lahore. Later in 1992, MCE signed MoU with MSU, USA for Split MS degree program.

■ MCE became a constituent college of NUST in 1995.

Forensic Geotechnical Investigation of Qila Bala Hisar:The study is under taken to evaluate the causes of failure of one of the walls of Qila Bala Hisar which has fallen amid the 27 October 2015 seismic tremor.

Final Year Projects prepare students for the industry in pursuit of their engineering career/ practice and is considered an opportunity for developing analytical and problem solving skills. The showcased projects are of practical nature and typically, involve an engineering design component, and / or approach to solving a real-life problem.

Development of Engineers Support Plan Calculator :The objective of this project was to develop a comprehensive Software /Hand-Held Gadget to minimize the tedious procedure of developing Engineers Support Plan.

Translucent Concrete Using Optical Fibres.The objective of this study was to cast a concrete that can be used for decorative as well as construction purposes without affecting the strength of the concrete.

Development of Pavement Design and Analysis Software- RISPAVEThe objective of this project was to develop a windows based software for design and analysis of all types of Pavement.

Traffic Improvement Plan Using Micro-Simulations and Geometric InterventionsThe objective of the study was to suggest traffic improvement plan for Nowshehra City using real time traffic data simulations, traffic management and geometric design improvement measures.

Experimental Testing of Ground Improvement Techniques at Swat Motorway:The objective of this project was to suggest best technique to improve soil conditions. The Soil in Swat Motorway Projet has tendency of excessive settlement due to High water Table and Clay.

KEY PROJECTS UNDERTAKEN BY MCE

Geotechnical Design and Investigation of Kurram Tangi Dam

Slope Stabilization in Collaboration with NHA

FATA Development Project

Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway (M-6)

Kurram Tangi Dam is a multipurpose dam being constructed on the Kurram River in North Waziristan Agency. The Dam has a command Area of 84,380 Acres and hydro-power generation capacity of 84,830 MW. MCE has been engaged in this project for Survey and Geotechnical Investigations.

MCE has introduced its innovative concept of Micro-Piling , Anchorage and active landslide management for Slope stabilization of various sites on Islamabad Murree Dual Carriageway, Muzaffarabad- Kohala Road and KKH in collaboration with NHA.

Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway is 6 lane, 296 KM long North-South Motorway being constructed as part of China Pakistan Economic Corridor Project. MCE is involved in this mega project as Bid Design Consultants.

Development Works in remote areas of FATA is a priority task being undertaken by the Army as part of a comprehensive plan. These projects will improve the quality of life in the tribal areas, usher in a new era of economic prosperity and address the problem of militancy in the long term. MCE is contributing in these mega development projects as Design and Supervision Consultants.

Improvement of Asphalt Mix Design Technology for Pakistan in Collaboration with NHA

Other Mega Projects

Overlay and Modernization Project of 357 km long, 4 x Lane Motorway was executed by FWO on BOT Basis. The Project was executed on most modern lines. DD&C was involved in this project as Design Review Consultants and supported FWO in introducing modern concept of Asphalt Recycling and Performance Grade Bitumen.

DD&C Front Office, MCE is involved in various upcoming mega projects with Frontier Works Organization (FWO) including Oil Village FWO, FWO Cement Plant, Oil Refinery, North-South Pipe Line Project and Ring Road Lahore in various capacities.

The objective of project was to evaluate different aggregate sources, binder types and asphalt concrete mixtures based on performance-based laboratory investigations. Findings of research are envisaged to provide the basis for the implementation of mechanistic-empirical analysis and design which is considered more appropriate for heavy axle load/ excess tyre pressure and climatic conditions of Pakistan.

Swat Motorway is a 80 KM long, 4-Lane (extendable to 6 – lanes) limited access facility. The proposed motorway will originate from Captain Karnal Sher Khan Interchange on M-1 and will terminate at Chakdara Bridge on N-45 with 2 x Tunnels in Malakand Range. DD&C Front Office at MCE is involved in this project as Design & Supervision Consultants.

LAHORE-SIALKOT MOTORWAY PROJECT


Lahore – Sialkot Motorway is a 91 KM long, 4-Lane (extendable to 6 – lanes) limited access facility. The proposed motorway will originate from Kala Shah Kaku (KSK) and will terminate at city of Sambrial near Sialkot. At KSK, it will provide access to N-5 and M-2 through Lahore Bypass Link road. DD&C Front Office at MCE is involved in this project as Design Consultants.
