Swinburne Senior Secondary
Swinburne Senior Secondary College is a government secondary college which caters for students in their senior years of secondary education. They offer VCE, VET, VCAL and SBA courses.
OBSERVATIONS
Strathcona • Curriculum- rigid but rigorous, negotiated only by student
outcomes, driven entirely by art staff • Cross marking occurs at all year levels and staff are allocated
time to do this. • Subject offerings are similar to ours with the exception of
textiles, class sizes are similar. • Facilities were fabulous set around a gallery space, rooms were
specific use only • ICT- Apple macs and apple macbook pro are available for the
girls to use throughout the art wing. Staff attend PD on ICT and are allocated time for inservicing.
OBSERVATIONS
Swinburne Curriculum- Staff teach individual courses within a VCAA directive with a
heavy focus on collegiate sharing. Every Arts, Visual and Performing is offered. Class sizes are not an issue.
Cross marking occurs for every subject, time allocated.
Facilities were amazing, supported by government grants, all rooms were specific use only.
Design labs filled with macs, laptop program supports other subjects.
Gallery space was massive- allocated gallery within the school and every remaining surface visible covered in art indoor and outdoor.
