MIKE 11 is the industry standard for simulating flow, water quality and sediment transport in estuaries, rivers, irrigation canals and other surfacewater bodies in many regions. The reason is simple. It provides a wealth of capabilities that span the entire range of applications - from basic routing tocomplex, fully dynamic modelling. Yet it remains user friendly and efficient.

MIKE 11 in Brief

• Proven - used in hundreds of applications around the world. The de factostandard in many countries. Approved by numerous governmentalorganisations and bodies

Extendable - modules available for virtually any type of river modelling youcan envisage

• Efficient  - most computational modules include features for auto-calibration,sensitivity analysis and uncertainty assessment

•  Affordable - fully configurable modular structure allows you to choose thepackage that best suits your project budget and simulation requirements

• User-friendly  - a logical structure and workflow, flexible data input andmanipulation features, and familiar graphical tools makes it easy to learn, easy to use, easy to achieve results quickly and easy to upgrade from HEC-RAS models

• Persuasive - an impressive selection of data interpretation and visualisationtools makes it easy to generate convincing presentations for public

dissemination of information.

Applications

MIKE 11 Modules

The computational core of MIKE 11 is thefast, efficient and robust hydrodynamicsimulation engine. This is complemented bya wide range of additional modules andextensions covering almost all conceivableaspects of river modelling.

HD - HydrodynamicsThe hydrodynamic engine is available infour different sizes (75, 250, 450 andunlimited nodes). Each size of MIKE 11

includes:

• fully dynamic solution to thecomplete nonlinear St. Venantequations for open-channel flow

• choice of diffusive and kinematic waveapproximations in selected branches

• options for Muskingum and Muskingum-Cunge methods for simplified channelrouting in selected branches

• automatic adaptation to subcritical andsupercritical flow

• Standard hydraulic structures such asweirs, culverts, bridges, pumps, energyloss and tabulated structures.

GIS ExtensionPowerful extension for ArcMAP providingfeatures for catchment/river delineation,cross-section and Dem data, pollution loadestimates, flood visualisation/animation as2D maps and results presentation/analysisusing Temporal Analyst.

RR - Rainfall-Runoff Includes the unit hydrograph method, alumped conceptual continuous hydrologicalmodel and a monthly soil moisture

accounting model. Allows any modelcombination in the network. Includesauto-calibration tool.

SO - Structure OperationSimulates operational structures suchas sluices, overflow and radial gates aswell as pumps and reservoir releases withuser-defined operating strategies.

DB- Dam BreakProvides complete facilities for fast andconvenient definition of dam geometry, breach development in time and space aswell as failure mode. Includes DAMBRK /FLDWAV compatibility switch.

AUTOCAL- Automatic Calibration

Allows automisation of the calibrationprocess for a wide range of parameters, including RR parameters, Manning number, head loss coefficients, WQ parameters, etc.See Autocal description on page 35.

AD - Advection-DispersionTransport and spreading of conservativepollutants and constituents with linear decay (including heat).

ST / GST - Noncohesive SedimentTransport, erosion and deposition of non-cohesive and graded noncohesivesediments, including simulations of river morphology.

ACS - Cohesive Sediment3-layer bed description, which includesquasi-2D erosion.

ECO Lab - Ecological Modelling A numerical laboratory for ecological andwater quality modelling.

MIKE 11 StratifiedModelling vertical density differences, such as salinity or temperature in two-layer or multilayered stratified water bodies.

MIKE 11 Real TimeSimulation package and GIS front-end for

setting up operational flood forecastingsystems. Includes real-time updating andKalman filtering.

MIKE 11 links seamlessly with other packages:

MIKE 21 - for combined 1D-2Dflood modelling (see MIKE FLOOD)

MIKE SHE - for integrated surfacewater and groundwater modelling

FEFLOW - for subsurface flow andmass transport

MOUSE - for integrated urbancatchment modelling

Visual MODFLOW - for 3Dgroundwater flow and contaminanttransport modelling
