The Race Begins November, 2006 – GT adopts Sakai December, 2006 – Unicon hired to help

install Tight dealine --Full pilot– April, 2007 No permanent staff nor programmers. First hire in March, second and first

programmer in May.

The Barriers Time frame No programmers No direct migration from WebCT to Sakai

despite both using IMS compliant coding (just not to each other)

Content Module Issues WebCT exports one module at a time Sakai can import one or multiple modules,

but exports all active modules at one time. WebCT and Sakai speak the same

language but use different syntax . Sakai gives no meaningful error messages

to indicate where failures occur (Import failed)

CM Approach Export one module from Sakai and

compare the package with WebCT export package

The XML files were the key (all others can be ignored – sort of)

No indication of which parts in the XML files needed to be changed

T&E produced results after 1 week

CM Programming There were about 10 items to edit or change –

took 10 minutes for each module (too complex to give to instructors)

Graduate Assistant hired to automate the process Grad Assistant and later, a student assistant

were able to solve the problems first observed and later appearing.

Process takes seconds. What’s left to do? Combine multiple WebCT

export files into one Sakai import package.

Test Issues WebCT exports the entire quiz module Sakai imports one quiz at a time 5 WebCT question types to map to Sakai types

Multiple Choice One Right Answer MultiChoice Multi Response MultiResponse True False True False (different type)

Short Answer No equivalent Matching Matching Calculated No equivalent Paragraph Short Answer/Essay

Images Feedback

Test Approach Use Respondus to isolate one WebCT quiz Solve one question type at a time: MC, MR,

True False, Matching, Paragraph T&E solved first issue under 1 week Images (low priority) Feedback (low priority)
