MIG/MAG Process

aHigher productivity than SMAW and TIG process

aWide range of filler metal available

aThe majority of MIG/MAG equipments is also suitable for the Flux Cored Arc Welding

aSynergic arc control features help in getting optimal welding settings

aCan also be used in synergic tandem MIG for higher deposition rate (>10kg/H) on robotic applications

aNo slag to be removed when used with solid wire.

a250kg & 500kg wire Drum available to reduce the change-over time

With the Mig mag welding process (or GMAW-Gas metal Arc Welding), an arc is created between a continuous feeding filler metal and the work piece to be welded. In order to do so, a wire feeder is used to feed the wire (filler metal) through the welding torch to the weld pool. The arc is protected within a shielding gas atmosphere. The nature of this shielding gas can be either inert (Argon) or Active (CO2 or mixture of Argon and CO2).MIG MAG terminology is used when a solid wire is used as the electrodes but cored wire can be used as well with the same equipment. In this case, the welding process is called FCAW (flux cored arc welding).

The CV characteristic stabilizes the arc by keeping the same arc length. Current is used as the regulation parameter.

Current slightly increases when arc length is getting shorter. Doing so, filler melt-off rate increases as well and arc length (voltage) goes back to its pre-set position.

Current slightly decreases when arc length is getting longer. Doing so, filler melt-off rate decreases as well and arc length (voltage) drops back to its pre-set position. Arc length is getting longer (B) with as a result returning to point A.

necessary for welding procedures and easier adjustment of the machine

Pre-settingaAllowing to set the welding

parameters in Volts or Amps in advance of welding.

► Convenient for the welder allowing him to find the right parameters quickly

CrateraFading down the welding

parameters at the end of the welding cycle.

► Prevents against crater cracks at the end of weld

Hot soft startaHigher or lower welding

parameters during the first step of the four stroke

► Beneficial especially with aluminium starting at higher parameters when the material is still cold switching to lower settings after a few seconds

•ARC STABILITY : The unique process used for copper coating of Supramig® improves arc stability.

•VERY LOW SPATTER LEVELS : A very stable arc results in almost negligible spatter levels

•UNEQUALLED PENETRATION : A stable arc, is a focused arc, which improves penetration and eliminates the lack of fusion defects associated with generic MIG/MAG wires.

•SET IT AND FORGET IT : Supramig® is manufactured under a Production Control Regime that exceeds the requirements of ISO 9002 and ISO 140001. Designed for the ultimate consistency in spool-to-spool usage, it allows you to set the welding parameters and forget about them

• LOW HYDROGEN LEVELS : In independent tests, it was shown that Supramig welds contained less than 1ml HDM as welded and 0 after 24 hours

•QUALITY : Ultramag® is manufactured under a Quality Regime registered to ISO 9001. The quality of the steel used in its manufacturing process and its chemistry play a crucial role in welding. We only use the best quality controlled chemistries for the manufacture of our mig/mag wires

• FEEDABILITY AND ARC STABILITY : Ultramag® is manufactured by a process that ensures dimensional accuracy, yielding to excellent Arc Stability and Superior Feedability.
