MOVING FORWARD | MOVING YOU The Midway Modernization Program (MMP) is a nearly $400 million investment by the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) in the future of Midway International Airport as a choice destination for travelers and in the economic development of local communities through job creation. It’s the largest improvement program at the airport in nearly 20 years and will upgrade travelers’ experience flying from, to, or through Midway. The modernization is expected to create 1,700 jobs and includes amenities such as updated and expanded concessions, a vastly improved passenger screening experience, and improved parking facilities. Because the CDA is self-supporting, no local or state tax dollars will be used to fund the MMP projects. SECURITY CHECKPOINT EXPANSION Project Timeline: Fall 2017 – Winter 2019 More people than ever are moving through Midway and the existing security checkpoint area needs to be expanded to meet the demand as passenger volume continues to grow. To alleviate congestion in the concourse and improve the traveler experience through TSA security screening, the CDA is widening the existing security checkpoint area as part of the Midway Modernization Program (MMP). The expanded security area will span Cicero Avenue and also provide a new, welcoming gateway to Chicago. SECURITY CHECKPOINT EXPANSIONProject Timeline: Fall 2017 – Winter 2019

More people than ever are moving through Midway and the existing security checkpoint area needs to be expanded to meet the demand as passenger volume continues to grow. SECURITY CHECKPOINT EXPANSION

FAST FACTS: • The expansion widens the passenger bridge over Cicero Avenue from its

current width of 50 feet to nearly 400 feet creating an 80,000 square foot security pavilion with a single TSA checkpoint.

• The expansion will improve passenger flow through the checkpoint and provide opportunities for efficiencies in the inspection process.

• Moving the passenger security area opens up 18,000-square-feet of space for new concessions.

• Widening the existing security checkpoint area over Cicero Avenue presents a new gateway to Midway and to Chicago.

• The new security checkpoint design factors in the addition of automated screening lanes to be added at a later date.
