Midleware in Brazil

Although there is no broad midleware effort underway in the academic community here, there are a number of promising activities in the areas of PKI and directories within Brazil

Public key certification services

In the research and education community, several universities have begun to offer their own public key certification services, and a demand has already been expressed for integrating these separate initiatives.

Certification authorities– federal govern

– universities

PKI at national level

On a wider scale, public key certification was the object of legislation here in 2001, and a formal PKI hierarchy was defined, with the root CA being run by the federal government.

The federal government has also largely limited the circulation of printed documents, having replaced these by their digital equivalents.

6

Interoperation

Some initiatives are also being taken for interoperation of digital certification technology with neighboring countries.
