An Introduction To Microsoft Teams

What is Microsoft Teams and why would I use it?

Microsoft Teams is a messaging app for teams where all conversations, meetings, files, and notes

can be accessed by everyone, all in one place.

Which browsers are supported?

The Microsoft Teams app works in the following desktop browsers:

• Internet Explorer 11

• Microsoft Edge

• The latest version of Chrome

• The latest version of Firefox

• Safari is not currently supported

Is Microsoft Teams only accessible from my browser?

The Microsoft Teams app can be downloaded for Windows, Mac, Android, & iOS.

How to download Microsoft Teams app?

Windows Platform

a) Go to

https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads

b) Choose platform eg. Windows 64-bit etc.

c) Click on “Download Teams”

d) Select “Run” on the pop up shown at the bottom of the browser



Mac OS Platform

a) Go to https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads

b) Click on “Download Teams”

c) Based on the list of options shown click

on ”Mac” to download the “Teams_osx.pkg” application



Apple iOS Platform


b) Click on “Download on the App Store”

c) Microsoft Teams can be searched and

installed from the App Store directly as well.

d) Click on “Get” to install Microsoft Teams

on the device.

e) For installation of an app on an Apple

iPad device, it will prompt for the Apple account.

f) Enter your Apple account user details and

password.



Android Platform


b) Click on “Get it on Google Play”

c) Microsoft Teams can be searched and

installed from the Play Store directly as well.

d) Click on “Install” to setup Microsoft

Teams on the device.

e) Once Installed click on “Open”



How to log in to Microsoft Teams account?

Step 1: Once Teams installation is complete, open the Teams app and click on “Sign in”.

Step 2: Enter TEAMS credentials shared by the school.

Student id should be in this format [email protected]

Example: Student ID: [email protected]

Password: Student password

Step 3: Once the Student logs into Microsoft Teams, they will be able to view the respective class’s names under the “Teams” menu.


Navigating through Microsoft Teams

See the latest activity related to you, including mentions, replies, teams you’ve been added to, and more.

Have direct conversations outside of your teams with chat, video,

and voice-calling functionalities.

Shows all the Teams you belong to.

Download desktop app

Command Box: To search across your teams and files.

Channels

Inside Teams, you’ll see the channels created. General is created by default when creating a Team.


How can I join a meeting?

The Student can open the respective class team group and based on the class timetable. The

meeting is scheduled as per the Teacher’s timetable, so the timing needs to be followed.

As per the timetable, the teacher will schedule a meeting five minutes prior to the start of the lesson. The students need to check either General channel/Subject channel to view the meeting invite. Click on Join button to join the lesson.

This icon means the student device camera is turned on when they have joined the meeting.

This icon means the student device mic is

turned off, only turn on in case to raise questions to the teacher click on the icon

The speaker icon needs to be kept on so

that the teacher’s audio can be heard.

How can I clear my doubts during a lesson?

Students can clarify doubts during the lesson by sending messages in “Meeting Chat”.


How do I log out of Microsoft Teams?

• To log out of Microsoft Teams, click on your profile picture at the bottom left corner of the

app, then select Log out.

• For all operating systems, once you log out of Microsoft Teams, you’ll need to enter your

credentials again to launch the app again.


Where can I find resources or learning materials?

Step 1: Click on General Channel

Step 2: Click on Files

Step 3: Click on LEARNING MATERIALS folder

Step 4: Choose the subject folder

Step 5: You can find the learning materials uploaded week wise.


How can I save the learning materials to my computer system?

General Channel → Files → Learning Materials → Subject Folder → Week wise Folder →

Choose the file you want to download → Click on Download option.

Where can I find the general information and instructions?

Where can I find the assignments/quiz that teacher has uploaded?

General Channel → Assignments

Note : All the assignments assigned to your class will be listed in Assignments tab.


How can I send by assignments to teacher after completion?

General Channel → Assignments

Step 1: Go to the General channel, then select Assignment tab.

Step 2: All the assignments will be shown in order of their date of due. Select any assignment to

open it and view the assignment’s details.

Step 3: Upload the completed work, click on +Add work.


Step 4: Once the work is uploaded make sure to click on Turn In button to complete the

assignment submission.


How to complete the Quiz given in the assignment?

General channel → Assignments → Choose the assignment (quiz) that needs to be completed

Step 1: Go to the General channel, then select Assignment tab and open the Quiz assignment.

Step 2: Open the Quiz below My work.

Step 3: Once opened, you can answer the questions and click Submit button.


How I can see the feedback from teacher for an assignment?

General → Assignments → Completed → Choose the assignment for which you want to see the

feedback


How do I give attendance using POLLY?

POLLY is an app that your teacher will use for attendance and AFL

The app looks like

When the teacher posts her /his attendance, you will get a notification on your GENERAL post


RULES and RESPONSIBILITIES

What is expected from students during distance learning?

✓ Join the lesson as per the timetable given. Check the meeting invite for each lesson in the

respective subject channels.

✓ Students are not supposed to start the meeting before the teacher.

✓ The subject teacher will mute all students in the beginning of the lesson. You must

unmute yourself and speak only when the teacher calls your name for the purpose of

attendance or when you are expected to answer a question, or a platform is open for

discussion. If you face any technical difficulties, it must be informed via the chat box

otherwise you will be considered absent.

✓ Any doubts during the lesson can be addressed through the chat box.

✓ Recording of the lesson is not accepted.

✓ Please note that everything you write in the chat box and everything you do is monitored.

✓ Check the assignments file after each lesson, complete assignments with integrity and

honesty and submit it as per the dates given by the teacher.

✓ During the break, students are not permitted to use the online platform for connecting

with peers.

✓ Use the platform for educational purpose alone.

✓ Students are expected to take ownership for their own learning.

✓ Students are expected to do the assessments with integrity and honesty without any

guidance from the parents.

What is expected from parents during distance learning?

✓ Identify a suitable space in your home for your child to work without distraction, where

you can occasionally monitor him/her.

✓ Make sure that your ward joins for his/her online sessions as per the schedule.
