The company decided to migrate to the Windows Vista® operating system by using deployment tools such as Windows® Deployment Services and Microsoft® Systems Management Server 2003. The deployment has helped the organization reduce internal IT management costs and the number of helpdesk calls while enhancing end-user security and productivity. and supporting Satyam’s desktops and laptops.

To help successfully upgrade to the new Windows Vista operating system, the internal management division of Satyam’s Infrastructure Management Services (Satyam IMS) Group teamed with Microsoft to assist various departments to plan the migration, deployment, and ongoing management of its desktops and laptop environment. Satyam, a Microsoft Gold Certified partner, used schedules, project plans, business cases, and an effectual process methodology to deploy Windows Vista. The significant Microsoft technologies used to deploy Windows Vista were Business Desktop Deployment 2007, Windows Deployment Services, and Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003.

Satyam’s IMS Group provided end-to-end solutions such as migrating the client desktops and laptops, preserving the user state, and deploying the operating system with applications. For the migration, Satyam used three methods of deployment:

Zero-touch installation, a completely automated deployment scheduled through Microsoft Systems Management Server 2003.

Windows Deployment Services, a deployment completely dedicated for bare metal scenarios (no operating system).

Lite-touch installation, a semi-automated solution wherein the deployment process needs to be initiated and the rest happens automatically.

This initiative was successful in productively managing migration and optimizing the Windows Vista deployment. Satyam rolled out 2,320 systems in 13 working days with an image size of 15 GB, including 20 applications as part of the image.

“Microsoft created the Application Compatibility Factory (ACF) solution to connect enterprise customers to partners that have established application compatibility and remediation services, and Satyam Infrastructure Management Services is one of the only six Microsoft partners in the world to offer it to customers,” said Brad Brooks, Corporate Vice President, Online Services and Windows Business Group, Microsoft. “Satyam has also deployed Windows Vista across their own organization, further evidence of their commitment to the Windows Vista platform.”Satyam’s experience in migrating its internal users, coupled with the fact that it is engaged in dozens of active ACF projects, make Satyam IMS a perfect partner for Windows Vista deployment.

BenefitsThe implementation of Windows Vista has helped the company to achieve several critical business goals.
