Watercraft, snowmobiles and mopeds must be registered with the Department of State and display a registration decal unless they are exempt. The decal cannot be transferred to another watercraft or vehicle. This brochure provides instructions for placing registration numbers and decals. Mopeds Mopeds must be registered unless they are oper- ated only on private land. The moped registration number is printed on a three-year decal. The decal must be attached on the: n Rear fender of a two-wheel moped, or n Left rear fender of a three-wheel moped. Documented Vessels: On a vessel documented by the U.S. Coast Guard, the registration number does not have to be displayed. However, one registration decal must be attached to each side of the forward half of the vessel as high above the water line as possible.

SnowmobilesTrail Permit: Each snowmobile used on public land must display an annual Snowmobile Trail Permit sticker. These are available from agents of the Department of Natural Resources such as local retailers or snowmobile dealers. Attach the Trail Permit sticker on the center line of the snowmobile directly above the headlight. Trail permits are not required for snowmobiles registered as a historic snowmobile.

Registration Decal: All snowmobiles must be registered unless they are used solely on private land. Attach the three-year snowmobile registration decals on each side of the forward half of the cowl above the footwell of the snowmobile.

Historic snowmobile registrations receive a single decal which is placed above or below the headlight or, if not originally equipped with a headlight, on the forward half of the cowl above the footwell.
