THIS DATE IN MARLINS HISTORYJuly 11

The Marlins defeated the Diamondbacks, 2-0, at Chase Field in 2010. The Marlins used six pitchers in the shutout victory. Burke Badenhop picked up the win, as he tossed 0.2 inning

Overall record on this date: 7-3

Page 2: MIAMI MARLINS BASEBALL INFORMATION DEPARTMENTmets.mlb.com/documents/6/6/2/84193662/July_11_at... · The Marlins were off last night after falling to the Diamondbacks, 4-3, in 10 innings

• Alvarez climbs the bump against New York tonight riding a scoreless-innings streak of 18.1 frames against the Metropolitans, the longest active steak in the Majors by a pitcher against an opponent.

• The Marlins have won his last 10 starts overall. According to Elias, that is the longest streak in Club history, surpassing a stretch of nine straight wins in starts by Chris Hammond from May 19-July 2, 1993. The Marlins were 1-4 in Alvarez’s first five starts of the season, but have gone 12-1 since then.

• His 2.27 ERA this season ranks seventh in the Majors (fifth in the NL).

• Has not given up more than two runs in any of his last nine starts this season. Over that span (since May 22), he has the second-lowest ERA in the Majors at 1.04 (60.1 IP/7 ER), behind only Clayton Kershaw (0.97). His seven earned runs allowed in that time are the fewest of any starter, ahead of Kershaw (eight).

• Had a streak of 68.1 innings without allowing a home run snapped in the final inning of his last outing, on July 6 at St. Louis (Kolten Wong). It was the longest such streak of his career, and spanned 10 starts. The last home run he had allowed prior to that was a lead-off homer by Will Venable on May 11 at San Diego. According to Elias, that is the longest single-season homerless streak of his career, surpassing a 49.0-inning run from July 4-August 11, 2013.

• Since start of 2013, 0.29 hr/9 rate is lowest of any Major League starter (min. 500 batters faced), ahead of Matt Harvey (0.35) and Anibal Sanchez (0.40). Has allowed five home runs in 18 starts this season, already more than he allowed in 17 starts in 2013 (2). So far in 2014, ranks third among NL starters (sixth in MLB) in hr/9 (0.39), behind Andrew Cashner (0.24) and Adam Wainwright (0.27).

• Did not issue a walk for 23.1 innings, spanning from May 22-June 15.

• He ranks 11th among National League starters with a bb/9 rate of 1.72. Has allowed a walk in three straight starts for just the second time this season (also, April 2-13).

• Had a scoreless-innings streak of 27.0 innings at home snapped on June 15 vs. Pittsburgh. Notched two shutouts during that streak, on May 6 vs. Mets and June 3 vs. TB.

• Leads the Majors this season with three shutouts (all at home), and is tied with Johnny Cueto, Clayton Kershaw, Dallas Keuchel, Masahiro Tanaka and Adam Wainwright for most complete games (three).

• This season, shut out Seattle on April 19, the Mets on May 6 and the Rays on June 3. With the Tampa Bay shutout, became the first pitcher in MLB history to toss three consecutive shutouts in Interleague play (first IL shutout was Detroit on Sept. 29, 2013).

• Made 17 starts for Marlins in 2013, posting a 5-6 record and 3.59 ERA in 102.2 innings pitched (41 ER). Began season on 60-day disabled list with inflammation in right shoulder, coming off DL and making first start on July 4 at Atlanta.

• Tossed first career no-hitter and second career complete game on 2013 sea-son’s final day against Detroit to earn National League Player of the Week honors. Marked fifth no-hitter in Marlins’ history and first since Anibal Sanchez on September 6, 2006 vs. Arizona.

• According to STATS LLC, Closing Day no-hitter marked first time in Major League history a no-hitter was secured on a walk-off wild pitch and just fourth no-hitter (including combined) to occur on final day of season. In addition, according to Elias, was just fourth time in Modern Era a no-hitter (combined no-hitters not included) ended on a walk-off.
