Course Description: This course introduces students to college level composition and reading. Students will use the writing process
to compose effective sentences, paragraphs, and essays using standard edited American English in response to various reading
materials. Students will demonstrate proficiency in literal and critical comprehension by using a variety of reading strategies. (3 hr.
lecture)
Curriculum Action Rationale: This course was developed in response to state changes to developmental education courses and
college readiness statutes and is open to both exempt and nonexempt students. It is designed as a 14-week co-requisite to ENC1101
for students who choose to take it. However, developmental students who need both reading and writing can also take this course.
This course addresses the needs of students who may otherwise struggle and/or fail ENC1101 and other entry level college courses
requiring extensive writing and reading, by offering accelerated instruction in college-level composition and comprehension. It
includes both writing and reading skills.
Proposed Fee: $5.00
Rationale/Justification: This fee will match the current fees charged for developmental education courses in reading
and writing.
