A Cyclic Mass is any of the polyphonic settings from the Mass Ordinary such as the

Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus, Agnus Dei and has musical links in between the moements! A

good e"ample of a cantus firmus mass within a polyphonic setting is #Se la face ay pale$ Gloria%

 by Dufay! &e know this is true because it has a pree"istent source that has been taken from a

 ballade that was already e"istent named #Se la face ay pale%! A difference of this mass different

from others is that the way the piece is centered is different, for e"ample, most are centered on

indifferent speeds and thee alues hae been changed the top oices proide rhythmic diersity,

each measure was different and that was highly pri)ed! (n Gloria the cantus firmus is heard in the

first section * times the durations has been tripled, second duration has been doubled and the

third time it+s in the original pace! (t is similar to De itry+s in Arboris, because they both used

the techni-ue of changing the tempo .note alue/ for one musical line that keeps the same

rhythmic pattern! De itry reduced the alue by half for the last three taleas, both used the

reducing of the alue, howeer, De itry used it once and Dufay did it twice, Also De itry+s

motet is isorhythmic, but Dufay+s Gloria isn+t and De itry used a plainchant as tenor while

Dufay used his secular ballade!
