In addition to better job planning, the company sought to improve the efficiency of its estimating, prepress and finishing departments. Rex Three learned that Metrix would not only resolve their layout bottleneck, but it would also integrate easily with their Rampage prepress system and their JDF-enabled finishing equipment.

Solution

Rex Three purchased Metrix and immediately realized the benefits of faster and more efficient estimating, planning and prepress production processes. Three years later, Metrix has further streamlined the company’s workflow – making it “super simple” to speed a project from estimating and planning, to prepress and finishing.

Results

At first, some operators had reservations about having to learn a new software solution. Those concerns quickly evaporated as they worked with the intuitive Metrix interface to find faster and more productive ways to perform their work.

Estimators accelerate their processes by beginning with a Pace-generated estimate, and then using Metrix to refine it with all the production details. When faced with complex projects, Metrix automates the challenge of defining the most efficient layout and job plan, reducing the effort from a two hour chore to a 20-minute exercise.

CSRs love the Metrix CSV data import capability, which automatically imports order information from a spreadsheet. Operators love the Metrix JDF export feature, which uses Hot Folders to stream JDF imposition data directly and automatically into the Rampage system “without doing anything to it.”

The prepress and finishing teams enjoy the confidence of consistently receiving well-developed plans that require little or no intervention. Bobby Sayre adds one more favorite, the Binding ID feature, which saves him hours manually copying bindery IDs onto 20 or more forms, “I just duplicate it once, and drag it everywhere it needs to go.”

“I have been working in this field for a long time, and I can say that Metrix is by far the best product we have ever used,” says Sayre.

Rex Three utilizes Metrix to ensure the best quality and production value for its award winning, high-end offset print work. Likewise, Metrix plays a key role in making web-to-print work viable. For short-run digital print jobs, fast turnaround and optimum efficiency make the difference between a profitable and non-profitable job. Orders received at 10:00 AM are often required for delivery by the end of the day. These projects come in as PDFs, which Metrix auto-populates into a layout using Metrix XML data. The jobs go to prepress in 15 minutes or less, which allows Rex Three to provide clients an attractive price and rapid job turnaround. While the orders are smaller, Rex Three can confidently take on a lot of them, and be profitable based on higher volume. Bobby Sayre confirms, “There is simply no way that we could take on this work without the help of Metrix.”
