IntroductionA counselor must give accurate and usable information about jobs . Different jobs require different abilities, personalities and varied interest .
Consequently , a counselor must have considerable information about occupations if he is to achieve successful guidance of his pupil .
To choose a proper occupation is difficult of people because they normally have lack of knowledge about that occupation .
For these kind of people occupational information is provided .
It includes facts concerning the importance of an occupation , entrance requirements , opportunities for promotion , health and accident hazards compensations and other working conditions that are usually found in specific occupations or related group of occupations .

By considering the meaning of above two words , we can conclude that facts or knowledge gained or given about the facts of job or an occupation is known as OCCUPATIONAL INFORMATION .

Occupational information includes facts on the nature of work , occupational relationships , working conditions , educational requirements ( Including personal requirements , training and experience requirements and entrance requirements ) and the employment opportunities .
It is considered as accurate , usable information about jobs & occupation .It includes facts about jobs & occupation trends , the supply & demand of labor & training facilities .
Definitions of occupational information Acc. To Shartle, “ Occupational
Information is the accurate and usable information about jobs and occupations”.
Hoppock says, “ Occupational Information includes any and all kinds of information ,regarding any position , job or occupation ,providing only that the information is potentially of a person who is choosing an occupation.

PERSONAL SURVEY METHOD
This method requires more leg work and time .
This method is more effective for collecting information in compare to other methods .
In this a collector collects information by asking to the workers , technicians , officers & investigators of an occupation .
WANT AD SURVEY METHOD
It is one of the cheapest & easiest method of collecting information .
Such advertisements which appear in newspapers over a period of 6 months or a year are collected & information contained I them is analyzed & tabulated .
This is a good method for providing current information about jobs.
Job analysis methodjob analysis is the process of determining by observation and study and repotting pertinent information related to the nature of a specific job. If is the determination of the tasks which comprise he job and of the sills. Knowledge abilities and responsibilities required of the worker for successful performance and which differentiate the job from all other .
It is an accurate study of the various components of the jobs. It is concerned not only with the analysis of duties and conditions of works, but also with the individual qualification of the worker.

Methods of disseminating information
There are two chief methods of presenting occupational information to students:-
1.Individual methods
2.Group methods
Group methods of presenting occupational informationUnder the present condition group method of presenting occupational information is most suitable . Besides, the group method has the following advantages :-• Orientation can be given to all students .• Information of common interest and value can be
economically imparted• Experiences of a number
Group method of presenting occupational information
1. Through subject:- every subject teacher can show his students the relationship between the subject matter and occupation, as well as the vocational implications of his subject matter.
Career talk:- career talk is on special field of occupations or training appropriate to group of particular educational levels , emphasizing the importance of vocational planning .these may be arranged for student of particular faculties in a college . The subject matter may range from how and why of career planning to disseminating information about board and specific field of opportunities . This is one of the best ways of giving first hand information about the merits and limitations of a particular occupation.
Career conferences:- career conferences are series of meetings in which various professional experts in different occupations participate and make available their intimate knowledge of the requirement and opportunities in their fields of work . The programme of the conference should be well-drawn up . The most suitable time for such conferences is the beginning of the academic session when parents , too , can be invited.
Career groups :- they provide an occasion for imparting occupational information . As the group is usually small, problems regarding the different field of occupations can be discussed informally.
Works sample projects:- the student may spend a day or two on the job their choice . This will give them familiar with the working conditions in particular industries not possible through reading.
Special card and catalogue:- the counselor should prepare special card catalogue of the most useful occupational studies from books, pamphlets and magazines for ready reference . these card should contain not only the usual information of author , titles or publisher , but also a careful analysis and evaluation of the study.
Films and films strips:- films and film strips also help to arouse interest in the study of occupations.
Dramatization :- the writing and production of ane act play about occupation by students can prove an interesting way of disseminating occupational information. For example , the idea of the right and wrong way to apply for a job, or to appear for an interview can prove useful and interesting . Certain dramatized radio and TV programmers' can also prove useful.
Career education:- the information can be given to the student through the systematic teaching of occupations.
Through visit the places of work:- visits to places of works , factories or business establishment can also prove useful as the pupils can get first-hand knowledge about the working conditions.
Career exhibition:- a career exhibition means to organized display of material of occupational interest . although it is usually not possible to give detailed information through a display ,certain basis idea can be presented simply and clearly and at the same time , it can also be useful in directed to student other sources of information. Student can play an active role in planning and organizing career exhibition.
Bulletin board announcement and other devices:- bulletin board announcement ,display and other devices may be used to call attention to the information available. Copies of handouts received from DGE and UGC, different ministries and social agencies/university employment information and guidance bureau can also be displayed with advantage. A special notice board or bulletin board bearing the name ‘vocational guidance’ is described .
Through library:- a rich body of reference material, easily available , can help in informing the students about occupations and their requirements. A separate section in the library should be organized . Prospectuses of various institutes may also be included in it with advantages.

Individual method of presenting occupational information The better medium is asking questions to the counselee
by the counselor .according to Bera & Royber , during Interview following questions should be asked :-
1) In what circumstances occupational information is provided in counseling interview ?
2) How much help is done by counselor to the counselee in utilizing occupational information ?
3) Which occupational information is proper for the counsel , how does a counselor determine it ?
4) How does the counselor evaluate the utility of occupational information , provided in counseling interview ?
Through individual contacts:-students can seek the counselors help in the planning career , choosing a course of study , training or apprenticeship . The individual techniques is the best for disseminating information ,but due to the paucity of guidance personnel and the large number of students to be guided, it may not be possible to arranged such interview for every students. These may be restricted to student who can not be helped much through group techniques
Conclusion :- A large amount of accurate ,
up to date information regarding educational and vocational institutions , jobs & industries , occupational patterns , occupational fields , training facilities , educational , professional and technical courses , newly emerging occupation , job specifications , wage structure , change in required skills , employment trends , patterns etc is vital to success of any guidance and counseling program .
