Strategies and Assessment
I was skeptical at first about the addition of PCs. But I believe it has been a good thing overall. My daughter is definitely learning important skills that she would not have otherwise. She has access to teachers in ways that make me very sympathetic with the teachers for having to be checking email so often. But I don't believe that the PCs have improved the quality of her overall education. That lies with the teachers. They remain the most important part of a good education.
I like Edline. I value being able to get information through it and I like my daughter being able to connect with homework and teachers. I like getting the principal’s Thursday e-mails.
![Page 15: METC2011 Mobile Computing](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022050919/546b85e3af7959604f8b7b2a/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
Strategies and Assessment I think it is great that our daughters are on
the cutting edge of technology, preparing them for the future.
I am constantly amazed at the tech program at Villa. My daughter has thrived using her tablet pc. She is constantly using her computer to make cool powerpoint presentations and videos, listen to Spanish tapes, complete various assignments with creativity and make graphs and maps. I think the tech department is very approachable and works well with the girls. If I could only keep our puppy away from her powercord, we will be great.
![Page 16: METC2011 Mobile Computing](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022050919/546b85e3af7959604f8b7b2a/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
Strategies and Assessment
I wish the teachers would encourage more work and projects to be done on the tablet. I really like the way my daughter turns in her homework via the computer, directly to some of her teachers. I think this is really efficient. I also like the way Villa uses Edline, and Villa's website as means of communicating so well with the parents.
My daughter loves the tablet. I don't think school work would be as efficient without it.
Our girls comfort level with technology should be praised. It’s second nature. There is no hesitating trying new applications. They learn to solve problems by different approaches.

transform benefits across “systems.”

I have sometimes used etexts. We have access to research sites, reference sites, etc. that would otherwise be unavailable. We do a history/time line project that is hugely enhanced by Web access. The communication available through Edline and ready access to email has been extremely helpful.
I tend to mark up Works Cited Pages for girls using the tablet feature. It's easier to return to them and to see the changes and it saves paper. I don't like carrying more paper...unless its actually in book format.
![Page 32: METC2011 Mobile Computing](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022050919/546b85e3af7959604f8b7b2a/html5/thumbnails/32.jpg)

I give my students notes in PowerPoint format (very brief) and project the more detailed notes on the board. Many of my students fill in the blank with their tablet function. I also go over the students' vocabulary sentences in class. All of my students use the tablet feature and stylus to correct their vocabulary before turning them in. In Classics in Translation, I require note cards for many things. I have several students who create their note cards in Onenote or on digital note cards using the Tablet/stylus feature to make them look like actual note cards.
![Page 33: METC2011 Mobile Computing](https://reader034.vdocuments.site/reader034/viewer/2022050919/546b85e3af7959604f8b7b2a/html5/thumbnails/33.jpg)
Faculty
Don't use the tablet feature much, but I am saving paper by doing most of my quizzes and homework paperless. The tablet allows the computer to be smaller and more portable.
It allows students to do homework and take notes on their computers. In physics, it would be basically impossible to do these tasks without the tablet feature. I also feel that computer use is easier to monitor when tablets are flat in tablet mode on desks or labs.
