METAMORPHISM
When rocks are subjected to deep burial, tectonic forces such as folding, and high pressures and temperaturesTypes of metamorphismGeologists suggest that metamorphism can occur by way of the following three processes.Thermal metamorphismDynamic metamorphismMetasomatic metamorphismRegional metamorphismContact metamorphism
HOW ARE METAMORPHIC ROCKS FORMED?
Characteristics of Metamorphic Rocks1. Classified by texture and composition.2. Rarely has fossils.3. May react with acid.4. May have alternate bands of light and dark minerals.5. May be composed of only one mineral, ex. marble & quartzite.6. May have layers of visible crystals.7. Usually made of mineral crystals of different sizes.8. Rarely has pores or openings.9. May have bent or curved foliation.
What are metamorphic rocks?Metamorphic rocks have been modified by heat, pressure and chemical process usually while buried deep below earth's surface. There are two basic types of metamorphic rocks: Foliated metamorphic Non-foliated Foliated metamorphic
