Track Record
One of the most common questions we field here at MetalMiner is this one: “Can we see your track record?”
We’re proud to show off our track record! We know that current MetalMiner Monthly Outlook subscribers together saved tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars by following MetalMiner’s industrial buying strategies.2017 has revealed many market developments, some anticipated and some not. By constantly monitoring markets and reacting to present information (instead of trying to predict outcomes) MetalMiner successfully identified good opportunities for our monthly subscribers to hedge those metals that significantly rose in price this year.
This reminds us that for purchasing organizations, forecasting the future (an impossible task) is not as important as knowing how to react. The charts below depict where and when MetalMiner recommended hedging/buying forward throughout the year, indicated on each graph by red arrows.

Achieving Actual Savings
How Does the Monthly Outlook Translate Into Actual Savings?Below are a few examples of how the MetalMiner Monthly Outlooks create hard-dollar savings:
ALUMINUM
On August 8th, 2017 MetalMiner sent a subscriber alert suggesting that companies buy forward (or hedge; buy 9 months of volume) aluminum because prices would soon rise. If the subscriber locked in prices on August 8th rather than buying just over one month later, that subscriber would see the following savings:
CRC
In the CRC portion of the December 1, 2016 outlook, MetalMiner advised, “buying organizations may wish to lock in known demand for 2017 at current price levels”. The chart below demonstrates the price on December 1st compared to the average prices for the first two quarters of 2017.
STAINLESS STEEL
In the November 2016 monthly outlook, MetalMiner advised subscribers to lock in nickel prices, stating: “…nickel buyers might want to buy some volume (3 months’ worth of demand) near support levels. Buying organizations will have another opportunity window to buy larger volumes (+6 months’ worth of demand) if prices manage to break above resistance levels at $11,000/mt”. The price of nickel broke that resistance level on November 7th, signaling subscribers to lock in prices for 6 months. For buyers of 304 stainless steel, nickel represents a large portion of the price paid for stainless steel. The chart below demonstrates the price paid on a November surcharge of 304 stainless compared to the average surcharge price of 304 stainless between January and June 2017. The savings in the “Total Monthly Savings” column on the far right demonstrates an average monthly cost savings.
