— Metal Bulletin Zine P.O. Box 1339 Lake Stevens WA 98258 USA Metal Bulletin Zine #1-20: (2006-2009): Wisconsin #21-26: (2009-2010): Texas #27(2010)--now; Washington state All album reviews, news, updates below are by MMB, unless stated otherwise. ** Master - An Epiphany of Hate (review by Akerblogger) Ear-Splitting Grit: Master - An Epiphany Of Hate Master are prolific and consistent. Originally based out of Chicago, vocalist and bassist Paul Speckmann relocated Master to the Czech Republic where they channeled their aggressive anti-establishment driven sound towards the USA from the Balkan state. Master's first and second albums - Master (1990) and And On The Seventh Day God Created...Master (1991) - are underground gems: intense death-thrash with the odd quirk and melodic touch. Part Motorhead, part Autopsy. An Epiphany Of Hate is the 13th full-length release in Master's consistent speed machine and it's an example of a band who know their instruments and the weight and power of their music like the back of their gnarled, old-school hands. An Epiphany of Hate is frantic throughout. Ear-splitting and intense, it's got a reasonably clean and full sound but it's never sterile; the hazy chaos and natural anger still filters through. There is a melodic touch and a thrash-like playfulness throughout: songs pick up pace and groove with a gravel-like consistency as dual-guitars soar and squeal and riffs progress and the drums weigh in like frenetic jackhammers.

There is certainly remains a violent death-metal edge to the music, however. Speckmann's vocals are particularly malicious, grunting like a rabies infested dog-zombie from one song to the next. In 'Friction Soon Becomes Reality' he spits and froths with an incessant dread that can't be stopped. The vocals in 'An Epiphany Of Hate' morph into something out of a Cronenberg movie: pig-like snorts and inhaled rumblings merge with a hardcore-punk forthrightness. Speckmann is a great vocalist; there still remains a legible human quality to them and, similarly to Autopsy and Obituary, a real sense of emotional vulnerability that a lot of contemporary death-metal, on the whole, seems to lack.

There are a lot of memorable moments on this album: 'Face Your Fear' quite literally breaks down towards the end with guitar strings warping and wobbling as the song is tasered to a stop; 'It's Clearly Eden' breaks in to Morbid Saint and Demolition Hammer fury with catchy lyrics and a solid groove and the album closer 'Red Alert' journeys from a traditional mid-paced sound to a frantic thrash extravagance as dirty solo leading on to dirtier solo in a grittier Megadeth-esque fashion. An Epiphany of Hate is 44-minutes of

Page 3: Metal Bulletin Zine 75

3

extremely well-crafted death-metal. The album is littered with memorable moments. Speckmann has an knack for songwriting and an ear for melody that many more 'traditional' death metal bands seem to lack. It has the intensity of death-metal, the aggressive political stance of hardcore-punk and the playfulness of speed/NWOBHM. A very enjoyable album. The band is instantly associated with Cleveland and the working-class heavy metal that is all about power, punch, headbanging and honesty in the music. The band has quite a history and below you find a bit of that history. In addition, you can hear a song from the upcoming album at the link below. OFFICIAL HISTORY: Auburn president Bill Peters' first encounter with Destructor was seeing the band perform their very first 'live' show in 1984 at The Pop Shop, a club managed by Chris Andrews and located beneath the historic Cleveland Agora. Already working with bands such as Breaker and Shok Paris at the time, Peters fell in love with the band's untamed energy, great songwriting, wild spirit and charismatic stage presence. The Cleveland metal scene was dominated at the time with 'technically' great sounding bands. Many questioned why Peters

would choose to work with a band such as Destructor and how he could possibly record and capture the band's energy in the studio. After all, Destructor were considered to be one of the area's most 'anti-technical' of bands at the time. Despite the rough edges and regardless of the criticisms, Peters had a vision that Destructor could develop into something special and saw something in them most of his industry peers did not. He took a chance and moved forward, signing Destructor to his Auburn label in 1984. The band entered Suma Recording Studios to begin recording their debut album with engineer Paul Hamann at the helm. Destructor's "Maximum Destruction" album, released the following year in 1985 on Auburn Records, is considered by many to be an underground metal classic and quickly silenced the critics. It became Auburn's biggest seller and catapulted the band to international success in the metal underground. The album was licensed to Roadrunner Records in Europe several months after the initial release and later reissued by Listenable Records in 1999.

Destructor's crushing 'live' performances in the area, both headlining and opening for national acts such as Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth, became legendary. The band

Page 4: Metal Bulletin Zine 75

4

received rave reviews and full features in prestigious metal publications like Metal Forces, Kerrang!, Hit Parader and Metal Hammer. In 1987, Destructor entered Beachwood Studios with engineer Jim DeMain to begin recording their second album "Decibel Casualties". The album, along with Jag Panzer's "Chain Of Command", was going to help launch a joint venture between Auburn and major label Island Records. Unfortunately, both projects never saw the light of day. Several months into the Destructor recording sessions, bass player Dave Iannicca was innocently murdered on January 1, 1988. The incident devastated both the band and Auburn president Bill Peters, who had been a good friend of Dave's over the years. Coping with losing a 'family' member was very difficult for everyone to overcome. Destructor needed time to recover from the tragedy and were in no condition to begin playing music again. Peters struggled with his emotions and his dealings with Island Records, who took more of a business stance on the whole situation. Peters eventually decided to walk away from the entire 3-year label deal. It was a tough decision but the right one he felt to make at the time. Over the next several years, Destructor struggled to keep things going. They went through several bass players trying to move forward but the chemistry continued to be missing. During these years of uncertainty, the band did manage to go into the studio and finish one song from the "Decibel Casualties" sessions, "Storm Of Steel", for Auburn's 1990 "Heavy Artillery" compilation. The compilation was dedicated to Dave Iannicca. Unfortunately, the revolving door of bass players continued to take its toll, forcing the band into hiatus in the early 90's. Destructor resurfaced in 1999 when Listenable Records reissued the "Maximum Destruction" album. Inspired by the rejuvenated interest from the

reissue, Destructor entered the studio in 2000 to begin recording new material. After hearing the final mixes, Listenable expressed no interest in releasing the album and decided to drop the band from the label. Bass player frustrations continued to haunt the band and the album was never released. A song from those sessions, "The Triangle", appeared on the Heavy, oder was!? "Metal Crusade-Vol. IV" compilation.

Finally in 2002, Destructor connected with Boulder bass player Jamie Walters. Although several years younger than the band members, Jamie had been a long time Destructor fan and had seen the band on a number of occasions over the years. Both parties hit it off immediately and Destructor were back on track. Jamie was the missing piece to the puzzle the band had searched for so long and hard. Then in January of 2003, Destructor and Auburn officially reunited. The two parties had been talking for nearly a year and had been unofficially working together since the summer of 2002. Peters challenged the band to write new material and the band delivered with an amazing batch of originals that followed in the same tradition as the

Page 5: Metal Bulletin Zine 75

5

"Maximum Destruction" album. Destructor entered 609 Recording with engineer Don Depew (Breaker) in the Spring of 2003 to record "Sonic Bullet". The EP, released in the Summer, includes 5 new recordings ("Sonic Bullet", "Heavy Artillery", "Silent Enemy", "Blackest Night", "Master Of The Universe"), two tracks from the previously unreleased 2000 sessions ("G-Force", "The Triangle") and two 'live' tracks recorded in 2002 at the Classic Metal Festival ("Pounding Evil") and at the band's opening set for Slayer in Cleveland ("Iron Curtain"). The Summer of 2003 has seen a lot of activity from Destructor on the concert front. They performed at two major festivals, the BW&BK "6-Pack Weekend" in Cleveland (headlined by Candlemass and Trouble) and the Bang Your Head in Balingen, Germany (headlined by Twisted Sister and Dio), and opened the Iron Maiden/Dio/Motorhead Cleveland tour date. The band are currently finishing up writing new material and plan to enter the studio next year to begin recording a new full-length. www.soundcloud.com/puresteelrecords/destructor-fight www.facebook.com/DestructorMetal ** NEWS: Tarchon Fist Celebration (compilation) release date: February 5th, 2016 Label: Il Male Produzioni Below you will find the official information about this traditional heavy metal from Italy. OFFICIAL PRESS: TARCHON FIST from Italy are on the scene since 2005. They performed lot of shows in their own country and also in Europe including

Czech Republic, Austria, England, Switzerland, France, Germany and more. Now in 2015, the guys are releasing their fourth album worldwide. TARCHON FIST are mainly a live band so they work on songs among the concerts. This means that usually needs some time until a new album is ready! Now the band is proud to announce that the album "Celebration" is finally finished but sadly the former label My Graveyard stopped working because of personal reasons. Pure Steel supports this band because of Tarchon Fist y play a high class Heavy Metal with influences from SETH 13, BLOOD GOD and PRIMAL FEAR without being old fashioned. Fine Metal is never obsolete! PROUD TO BE A DINOSAUR

HISTORY It is quite difficult to set a date for the birth of Tarchon Fist; the group has in fact born and developed in conjunction with a series of events. The core unit was created at the end of March 2005, after the Rain’s severance, the memoralbe italian gruop present in the metal scene from the 1980s, whose guitarist, founder and pieces’ author was Luciano “Lvcio” Tattini. This event coincided with the meeting with Luigi “J.J. Sange” Sangermano, Old

Page 6: Metal Bulletin Zine 75

6

Flame singer (Thin Lizzy tribute band, from Milan), and the following involvement of Marco “Wallace” Pazzini (bassist and founder of Basic Dreams, famous band from Bologna born in 1994). The starting idea was to continue with the Rain project, but this has not been possible because of a serious of adversed situations. Between April and May 2005, two other components added to the initial ones: Andrea“Animal” Bernabeo, drummer graduated at Music Academy (music school from Bologna) and Lucio “Junior” Martelli, one of the best soloist guitarists from Bologna (among others, he was active in a collaboration with Labyrinth’s components). The band tested its capabilities in about ten live concerts between the end of 2005 and the beginning of 2006, where it presented the pieces which will be thereafter gathered in the album “Tarchon Fist”; among others “Metal Detector” and “Carved With Fire”; the riff of both pieces were written by Lvcio in the second half of the 80s. At the end of 2005, the band recorded a promo of two pieces (“It’s My World” and “Eyes Of Wolf”), distributed at the beginning just to the related professionals; Gabriele Ravaglia of Fear Studio in Alfonsine (RA) took care of the mixing. In July 2006 it was decided to use the name TARCHON FIST for this project, and, thanks to the great reply from the media delivery of the two promo pieces, the band started believing more and more in its capabilities. Always in July, the band entered the studio to record the whole album; meanwhile, the first Tarchon Fist Video was produced on the music “Eyes of Wolf” (direction, shots and editing by Iacopo “Jakk” Ghisolfi). Thanks to this video, the band was contacted by the label MY GRAVEYARD

PRODUCTIONS from Brescia, and in October 2007 they signed a contract, that has initialled a collaboration active still now. Always in 2007 a promotional DVD was produced (just for related professionals), containing the “Eyes of Wolf “ video, and also some videos of the band’s live performances. The editing of the 11 pieces, which will constitute the new album, have been carried out in Pri Studio (BO) by the guitarist and producer Roberto Priori, and the mix has been devolved upon Marco Barusso, a very well known person in the scene as he has been producer of Gli Atroci and sound engineer of Lacuna Coil. At the same time, the second video on the music “It’s my World” was shot (direction, shots and editing by Simone “Mylo” Zordan).

In September 2007 Junior left the band because of an appealing working opportunity, that brought him to collaboration with a famous Italian pop star. After a ranks’ period, the vacancy has been assigned to Federico “Heavy Rico” Mengoli. On the 10th of January 2008 My Graveyard Productions and Tarchon Fist announced the release of the album “Tarchon Fist”. The band and the label presented their work to the press a day after the Rock’n’Roll of Milan. The album was enriched thanks to the contribution of Clifford Evans (Tank / Paul Di Anno), Alberto Simonini

Page 7: Metal Bulletin Zine 75

7

(Crying Steel), Alberto Bergonzoni (GliAtroci) and Ciano (Listeria). Thanks to the intense live activity and the promotional actions, the new CD was sold like hot cakes, and in a few weeks from the release people were already talking about reprinting. At the same time, the band was already working for the pieces of the following album; in July 2008 a preproduction was carried out at the High Distorsion Level of Luca Gomedi (BO). In that period the first fan club in Brescia was also born; as time goes by, it has than absorbed all the other smaller realities developed at a national level, among others the fan club from Bologna, in order to create one and only organization. In September 2008, the recordings of the new CD started, while between October and November the band prepared to cope with its new tour of about twelve dates. On the 8th of November Tarchon Fist recorded the show for the DVD production in the club Santi Angeli Music House in Giavera del Montello (TV). The video recordings were assigned to NYGMA Soluzioni Web Multimediali (TV), while the audio to High Distorsion Level. During just 4 years of activity, Tarchon Fist has had the opportunity to share the stage with internationally renowned bands, as Girlschool, Crucified Barbara, Tokyo Blade, Helstar, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Manilla Road, Steel Assassin, Vision Divine, Molly Hatchet, Cloven Hoof and Elixir. Moreover, in autumn 2009, Tarchon Fist crossed for the first time the national borders to perform in Switzerland and Germany. In April 2009, Tarchon Fist started the shoots of the new video on the music “Fighters”(direction, shots and editing by Livio Basoli and Simone Danieli); in the same period the band finished the recordings of the new album. The first editing was once again been assigned to Roberto Priori of Pri Studio and the final mixing to Marco Barusso. The goal was to let the new CD, always for My Graveyard

Productions, release at the beginning of October 2009. In spite of the difficult undertaking to release the double CD (20 tracks and 2 videos, besides the unfailing multimedia part), the aim was successfully reached. as Tom Naumann (Primal Fear ex guitarist), Dean Robertson and Rob Weir of Tyger of Pantang were involved; also “Junior” Lucio Martelli, ex guitarist of the band, took part in the realization of the CD. Always with My Graveyard Productions, Tarchon Fist presented the new album “Fighters” with a double release party (on the 3rd of October 2009 at Olden Live Club in Brescia, and the following day at Sottotetto in Bologna). As the former album, this new one has immediately had great success among the critics, and the sales of the first period have been even more than for the previous album.

Unfortunately, at the end of 2009, J. J. Sange announced his intention of leaving the band because his personal engagements have become incompatible with the intense activity of the group; nevertheless, he will stay together with Tarchon Fist until July of the

Page 8: Metal Bulletin Zine 75

following year. In mid-June 2010, after several technical difficulties, the DVD “WE ARE THE LEGION” has finally been available to the public, always with My Graveyard Productions. Wit this product, the band would like to pay homage to the rockers all over the world, as the song “Hammer squad” is dedicated to the “hard core”, to the more inveterate supporters as well as TARCHON FIST collaborators. In January 2010, Tarchon Fist begins the auditions for the place left by J.J. Sange. In August, after quite a lot of trials, the vacant place is assigned to mister MIRCO RAMONDO (RAMON), singer from Abruzzi, who has been for years member of cover bands, and who is immediately involved in the recording of three new songs, in the vanguard of a new CD, which the band forecasts for the next future. During the next months the band will stake all the work done in these years. The ambitious purpose is to make that qualitative leap, that just few national groups have managed to do. But this is another story. www.facebook.com/TARCHON-FIST-62330391412/ ** NEWS: The Shiva Hypothesis Promo 2015 release date: December 1st, 2015 label: independent This black metal recording is available at Bandcamp for free/name your price. It is the hope that in the future there will be more coverage of this band in this publication, but for now let’s not waste any more time. Below you will find some official information about the band and its music.

- “The Shiva Hypothesis is a band from The Netherlands which combines black metal aesthetics, 90’s death/thrash metal with strong atmospheric touches. The Shiva Hypothesis (TSH) is a collective of musical deviants hailing from the Twente region in the Netherlands. TSH has been pursuing its own brand of dark and extreme metal with relentless fervour and mad perseverance. The first part of the band’s history mainly involving a search for the right expression and sound, with the occasional loud outburst in the form of some instrumental live gigs. With the addition of vocalist MvS, giving a voice to the band’s inherent philosophy, the band is now ready to spout its vision into the world. TSH can be sonically categorized as a mix of black metal aesthetics, occasional aggressive outpourings in the vein of 90’s death/thrash metal and some strong atmospheric touches. The band strives for a mystic, gloomy, murky sound (with a slight hint of madness) to underline the main theme: destruction and creation. The band’s lyrics incorporate elements of comparative religion and mythology. Musically, TSH has drawn inspiration from the works of such bands as Behemoth, Emperor, Immortal, Death, Ved Buens Ende, Mayhem, and Gorgoroth, as well as numerous non-metal artists. The release of a full length album is planned and at the same time work on an EP is already in progress; written, recorded and produced in accordance with the band’s strong DIY ethos.” This is the recording: 1.Caduceus 05:34 2.Praedormitium 05:57 3.Maze of Delusion 09:03

It is the hope that in the future this publication can bring you more information or coverage, but it is time this week to wrap up this issue. For now, just know that this is traditional black metal, from the vocals, the instrumentation and to the production values. Below is some official information. This is black metal from the U.S., from California, according to Metal Archives. -- Indesiderium was formed by Atrum Lord in 2012. Indesiderium’s brand of USBM has been forged from the same molten steel as that of the elder Gods... Indesiderium...formed by lead guitarist Atrum Abbas in the winter of 2012, Indesiderium’s brand of United States Black Metal has been forged from the same molten steel as that of the Ancient Ones. Consisting of age old material spanning the last 15 years, only now has the time come to summon these rituals of blackened diabolical majesty. Having performed in several metal hordes over the years, Atrum made the decision to embark on a one-man journey towards a more darkened isolation. With the assistance of his old comrade and former Gravespawn skins basher Mattias, Atrum has assumed the duty of performing all instruments including vokills.

Indesiderium’s inaugural opus of tormented misery shall arrive in the form of an EP entitled “Wanderer of the Abyssal Plain.” Five hymns were composed and are now being rehearsed in a small studio high in the mountains, hours away from the pestilent plague that is Humanity. Aforism Aforism (Greece) has a couple of recordings available for free at Bandcamp, as you can see below. The recordings are solid, promising demo-level works that will appeal to the enthusiasts that love exploring new recordings and bands. Aforism is music that puts the songs first. It's uptempo extreme metal with dark melodies. The music probably sounds closer to black metal than anything else, and the guitar work has hooks for the listeners to gravitate towards. Below you will find information about the recordings, the bio and a statement.

BIO: Aforism were formed in Athens, Greece/Hellas by Δάµων (Damon) - officially/typically - at the end of 2014 as a one man project . Their musical style is or at least is attempted to be tragic black* metal. Their lyrical themes are influenced by art and philosophy and are about the human condition/experience. Aforism's first release was a demo entitled “Torturer Of All”, which came out in late January of 2015. A year later

in the first days of 2016, is released a split EP with Constrictor entitled “No Night To Sleep”. The next goal for Aforism is the release of their first full-length album some time in late 2016/early 2017, in the style of “Torturer Of All”. All of Aforism's releases – the first two in free digital form - can be found in their official channel in youtube, and bandcamp page. STATEMENT: It's a long statement but check it out. Because of the recent reviews for “No Night To Sleep” - for all of which I am honestly and deeply thankful - and hopefully those yet to come, I have to clarify some things and take full responsibility for the misconception of my project's genre, even though I don't have to. My two songs in the split with Constrictor, “Lone Shadow” and “Terror – The Catharsis”, were written in Spring and Summer of 2013 in my pre-black era and are quite older than those in “Torturer Of All” (demo 2015). This means that my part as Aforism in NNTS is not purely black metal but (melodic) blackened death. So there is a difference in the structures and the style that doesn't quite align with the main style of Aforism. My songs in NNTS were selected in tribute to my past, my influences ( like Death) and my younger work that didn't have the chance to be released in its time. What will come next will be closer to Torturer Of All. Regarding the drums in NNTS, it's no secret that are programmed and not realistic enough in some parts. This decision was made due to lack of money and time – and not of comprehension... see what I did there? ^^ - and not because of lack of will for more work on my craft. In the future you shall await something way better, this is not an apology, this is a promise first of all to me and then to anyone who likes and listens to my work. All of the above been said, I'd like to give an

Page 11: Metal Bulletin Zine 75

11

idea about the future of Aforism. Knowing what I have already written and what I desire and will probably write in the coming months, I have to define my style. Aforism were never a “full” or “pure” black metal project either of Norwegian or of Hellenic tradition, and I don't think that they will ever be. I will attempt to create and write , as long as I need to and desire, “tragic black metal”. With the term “tragic black metal” or even better “tragic black” , I imagine a style of music with elements of the black metal aesthetic, melodic and dramatic (especially the vocals), with a variety of influences within and beyond the metal scene, behind it. My tragic black will not be about how much heavy or extreme, how cult or raw ( and crappy), or depressive, or dark, or nihilistic or minimal, or romantic etc. one can be. Tragic black, at least that, that I will attempt to create/write, will be about the whole of human condition/experience and the tragedy of it. My tragic black will rise above all political propaganda and its narrow anti-art and militant logic, above judo-Christian humanism and morality. When the time and the money is right, I will try to make all of the above and more, a reality, by releasing my first full length album possibly in this year! Tragic black might be a work in progress and at some point change a bit as all things do, it might fail, It might get lost in this saturated by projects era , it might be in vain but for now the dream, the coming dawn is tragic and black. Until then, spread the suffering! grin emoticon Thanks to anyone who read the whole thing.
