Countdown to Race Day!

It is with mixed emotions that ValleyStar Credit Union announces the retirement of Wes Gordon as the organization’s SVP/CFO. Wes has been a member and employee of the Credit Union since 1988, and has served in various capacities, including: Controller,

VP of InformationTechnology, VP of Finance, and SVP/CFO. In addition to his work at ValleyStar, Wes currently serves on the Audit Committee for the Virginia Credit Unions Care Foundation, and also serves as Treasurer (12 years) for Hardy Volunteer Life Saving and Rescue.

Wes graduated from Virginia Tech and earned a BS in Accounting. Prior to working at ValleyStar, he worked at Heironimus department store and also at the Virginia Credit Union League as the Director of Audit Services for 11 years. He is a former volunteer on the Supervisory Committee at Heironimus Employees Federal Credit Union, and also served on the Board of Directors (17 years) and the Supervisory Committee (19 years) at Beacon Credit Union.

During Wes’ time at ValleyStar, he has certainly seen a lot of change and growth. When he first started, the Credit Union was operating in the original DuPont plant, had one branch in Martinsville and only one ATM, had $66.8M in assets, 11,000 members, and about 20 employees. Since then, Wes has seen the building and renovation of numerous facilities, an expanded ATM network,

successful mergers helping to boost the Credit Union to 41,000 members and $388M in assets, as well as the implementation of industry-changing online and mobile services. He was part of the team that first instituted debit cards, and remembers the Credit Union’s big 50th anniversary celebration in 2003.

“Among many other attributes, Wes Gordon is dedicated, loyal, caring, and a friend to many,” stated Delbert Lee Morgan, President/CEO.“After 29 years of service to ValleyStar and its members, Wes is starting another exciting chapter in his life. Everyone at ValleyStar wishes Wes a wonderful and relaxing retirement. He deserves the best!”

Wes looks forward to “taking his time” in retirement with his wife and two children, enjoying lots of music and sporting events, travel, and volunteer work as a lifetime active community volunteer. We all wish you the very best, Wes! Thank you for your many years of service, and you will truly be missed.
