Newsletter 18, 30 November 2018 Message from the Principal We know that we are coming to the end of the school year, when we start to think about the School Picnic, planning of grades and booklists for 2019! This is always a busy time. Teachers are also in the process of writing Semester 2 reports which will be available to parents and carers in the last week of the term. WHOLE SCHOOL PICNIC : Wednesday 12 December (5-7pm) This year, we will be hosting an end of year School Picnic. Each grade will perform a class item. The School Picnic will be held on our school oval on Wednesday 12 December. This is a great opportunity for our whole school community to come together and celebrate the year with family, friends, students and staff. Mark it in your calendar, bring a picnic blanket and food as we would love to see the whole school community there! TOILET BLOCK Works on our new toilet block have commenced and will continue for the remainder of the year and throughout the month of January. This is an exciting time for our whole school community, especially for our students. We look forward to officially opening our new toilet block in the New Year. Please Note: As this area of the school is a work site, please ensure that any viewing is conducted from the perimeter safety fencing. JUNIOR SCHOOL COUNCIL JSC – Loud T Shirt Day Congratulations to our Junior School Council for all their work in organising our Loud T Shirt day last week and for developing awareness for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children. It was quite a colourful event. Over $450 was raised and will be donated to Taralye Early Intervention Centre. Outstanding work! BOOK PACKS 2019 Notices were sent home last week explaining the nominal charge for Book Packs in 2019 . The charge for grades Prep – 2 is $60 and Grades 3 – 6 is $80. A breakdown of the costing of this was included in the notice. This amount is still heavily subsidised by the school and is considerably lower than many other schools. The book packs will be delivered to the classrooms on the first day of school. COMPASS – GOING LIVE Thank you to all parents who are using COMPASS to communicate and track absences on the Parent Portal. It is our goal to strengthen and streamline communication between home and school, so we can work together to best support students and their learning. Students Semester Two Reports will be available to parents through the reporting tab on COMPASS. Parents who are yet to sign up may do so by contacting the front office, where you will be provided with your unique family username and password to access the parent portal on COMPASS. iPads will be stored at the office to assist families to sign up. Parents can access COMPASS online via our school website through the Parent Portal tab or you can download the App onto your phone. PRE PREP PROGRAM Is your child enrolled to start prep at St Albans East next year? If YES, we encourage you to bring your child to the school each Friday this term from 9am to 11am to participate in our First Steps Program. The focus of this program is to provide activities that will help to prepare your child for prep. In addition, our Prep transition is underway. Please do not delay in enrolling your Prep child so they do not miss out on this valuable information. TERM 4 CURRICULUM DAY Curriculum Day for Term 4 will be held on Friday 21 December. This will mean that the last day for students this year will be Thursday 20 December. SUN SMART A reminder that our SunSmart Policy is implemented in Term 4, requiring all students to wear a navy blue broad- brimmed or legionnaire style hat at all times, whilst outside. Hats can be purchased from the school office at any time. Please note that caps and bandanas are not appropriate, and as such are not part of the school uniform. Our school rule is No Hat, No Play…. This means that students without a hat will be required to sit in a shaded place for the duration of the recess break.
