Welcome back to the lab:

“Sharing the secondment experience”

December 2 and 9, 2015 On November 20, 2015 the Early Stage Researchers have been informed that a special event "Welcome back to the lab: sharing the secondment experience" will be organized on December 2, 2015 aimed at sharing their abroad experience with the Sapienza Supervisory Board members and with the other fellows. Since the secondment was one of the focal points of their international mobility , the ESRs have been kindly requested to prepare a report about their 3-months secondment period, including: • experiential dimension about their cultural relocation, also mentioning the logistic aspects at host institutions (like access to physical and digital bibliographic resources, to research infrastructure and computing facilities, working space, etc).; • the progress on the unified research program and their individual focus (specifying the meta-theoretical analyses conducted during this period, new retrieved PDFs, their participation in the online Skype monitoring meetings, etc.) • the video-interviews they have conducted, including the names of all interviewees and the language in which the interview was conducted and date • scientific events in which they participated during this period (such as seminars, training schools, conference, etc.), • complementary training and/or research activities • networking opportunities • presentations they have performed or lectures they have given • progress of the students under their supervision (if applicable) • any other issue they consider relevant and worth sharing, even from the experiential and cultural point of view (like social events, national holidays, festivals, museum, etc.) The ESRs have been invited to provide this report by November 29 in Word format, eventually complemented by notes or simply signed by their tutor/s at the host institution. They have been encouraged to also include photos of various activities related to their secondment. Sapienza Supervisory Board will assess the written and oral reports after having checked the correctness of the information and the research material provided. The assessment is aimed not only to evaluate the research progress during the secondment, but also to provide recommendations and actions to be pursued to achieve the project’s milestones.

“I must say that it was a very nice experience, I learned a lot from it and most important I learned a lot about me and my future in the professional area. I had the chance to participate at some nice academic events as also to some cultural events such as the days of the city, to see some concerts and presentations specific to the cultural background of the city and the country. I appreciate a lot this experience and I am glad to have had the opportunity to enjoy it and to gain knowledge and experience from it. I plan to use everything I learned during this period and to enrich my experience during my PhD. This secondment offered me the chance to enter in contact with people that in other situations I would not have had the chance and to learn things that I do not think I would have been able in other situations. Over all, It was a very good experience, full of personal and professional accomplishments that I would do it again anytime!”

“Prof Alain Clemence gave me access to his office, to check for new PDFs, however most of the ones I was able to locate we already have and I was not able to research very thoroughly because after I got access to the office I had only a couple of days before I needed to be back in Rome. In addition, the University library does not have materials on SR. However, I was informed that the missing PDFs should be searched in Paris, in the archives of the Departments of Social Psychology there. ”

“Before my arrival on the second on September 2015 I was already enrolled into the Sociology doctoral study program beginning from 1 September by Mrs. Dagmar Habova from the Office for International Relations was given the IS instructions for international students, given my personal password set, that I could use for various remote accesses incl. e-resources in the library. I also was greeted by Mrs. Dagmar Habova and Prof Radim Marada upon my arrival and received all the necessary information about university facilities, got a university card, a foreign student toolkit with useful information about the university, campus map etc. During my secondment I could use library serviced of all the faculties of the Masaryk University. Using the university library and its access and subscription to some of the most important international online journals I was able to find missing pdfs and retrieve some new publications and scientific works to include in our library. Concentrating mostly on my primary task of doing Meta-theoretical analysis, I was not able to participate in many events at the university, but I benefited from its international scientific environment that had inspired me to go further. I was also to follow a short term German language course, that I hope will be an asset to our research in the future.”

“My relocation was very smooth, as Prof. Martha de Alba, my coordinator in Mexico, made this transition easy for me, by finding me an apartment for rent from a colleague of hers, professor at UNAM. Prof. Martha de Alba has also invited me upon my arrival to go out with her and her family, with the occasion of a national holiday; this gave me the opportunity to get acquainted with my surroundings in a warm, safe and friendly atmosphere. In order to retrieve publications on social representations, Prof. de Alba wrote to her colleagues about me and my objective here in Mexico, asking them to facilitate my access to the publications on SR they themselves have, in physical format or otherwise. In this way, I did get access to new publications which I scanned and sent for improving the SoReCom A.S.de Rosa @-library as I obtained them. Also, Prof. de Alba sent a student to accompany me to the university library, in order to help me find my way around the campus faster than I would have by myself. All in all, my relocation experience was very easy and enjoyable. I attended a seminar held by Prof. de Alba on social chains, how they are formed, and sense of community. I participated in the III COLOQUIO NACIONAL DE INVESTIGACIÓN EN REPRESENTACIONES SOCIALES, XALAPA 28 Y 29 DE OCTUBRE 2015, with a joint paper, where I presented the preliminary results of my research so far The conference was a great network opportunity, as many prominent scientists that work within the theory were present.”

“The University of the Basque Country provided me access to the Erasmus students’ room, the university library and an account to access digital resources. I learned Spanish, and I wish to improve my level over the next year. I met prof. Lorena Gil de Montes every Tuesday morning. We discussed some research methodologies, such as the qualitative and quantitative content analysis (based on ALCESTE and Atlasti), the associative network, and the use of drawings. Her tutoring was very helpful. Nevertheless, I would have needed some complementary training in the field of sociology and communication.”

I have had access to the library due to my Student Card (Research Fellow), and to the offices reserved to students. Also, I had the option of benefitting from Health Insurance. I have conducted 90 meta-theoretical analyses, retrieved 80 new PDFs for the SoReCom Library and participated to most online monitoring meetings (during two of them, I was at the University, but kept in touch with Dr. Laura Dryjanska via e-mail and spoke later on during the respective weeks). “Overall, this experience was very enriching at a professional and personal level. From the contact with the LACCOS research setting and team I developed a clear picture of this geo cultural context special features and of how its study can be of relevance. Besides the academic and work experience, I cherish the very good personal relationships not only with coworkers, but also with many other people I met during my stay who made me feel totally immersed in the Brazilian culture and lifestyle. At the end of my secondment period, I attended the IX International Journeys on Social Representations (JIRS) and VI Brazilian Conference on Social Representations (Teresina, Brazil, 24 27 November 2015), where I presented two contributions focused on research results based on the meta-theoretical analysis of the social representations literature produced in Latin America and worldwide”.

“I gave 2 lectures with the PPTs on “System of Education in Russia” and “How to write an article and publish it in a peer-reviewed journal” at Tianjin University of Technology and Education on October 13, 2015. The lectures were attended by Deans, Deputy-deans, teaching staff and students of Tianjin University of Technology and Education and Tianjin Light Industry Vocational Technical College. I started the lectures with the introduction of our So.Re.Com. Join-IDP. I described the project, digital library and the activities we are involved in at the Lab. I gave both of the lectures with the simultaneous translation into Chinese made by Sun Siyu, for the most part of the audience could not follow the lectures in English. The lectures were interrupted by a number of discussions concerning European/International So.Re.Com. Joint-IDP and the topics of the lectures. Professors as well as the students were actively involved in the discussions and I got a good feedback from them.”

Borja de Madaria

IFSTTAR, Paris, France

“Since September 1st I had a working place in a shared office with four PhD students. They were mathematicians and engineers. Some of them have gone and some others came for few days. The only one who stayed at the office from the beginning to the end was Farouz, a Tunisian engineer. I also had my own desk, with my own computer and my own phone. I had an IFSTTAR I.D. in order to be able to enter in the building and use the shared facilities such as printer, scanner, photocopier, etc. From the very first day I was in contact with Ifsttar’s documentalists, both in the lab and in the library. And even, the lab documentalist had joined me to the main library at Université Paris-Est and other two specific ones in order to search and eventually retrieve lost references. I also had access to IFSTTAR database, which has also links to the databases of the Université Paris-Est, other academic and non-academic institutions, and online reviews. My working hours here were from 9,00 to 17,00 so I had enough time for working on meta-theoretical analysis even before going to IFSTTAR as I usually woke up very early in the morning. This flexibility allowed me to better manage my time and to work better because I could use my most productive hours for intellectual work. I have not done any analysis at IFSTTAR and I could widely achieve the goals of my secondment. This flexibility also allowed me to attend seminars and conferences and engage with current projects that Sonia Adele is developing at IFSTTAR. I sometimes joined Sonia to another research institute where she is working on a research project dealing with the Behaviour of Public Transport users in case of disruptions of the service. They are not working specifically with Social representations Theory, but we agree that it might be an useful approach and my specific task will be improve the scope, both theoretically and methodologically, with SRT. I have read about Mobility Identity and Mobility Logics related to Social Representations for the theoretical approach and about Mental Maps for the methodological one. This was also another way of improving the scope of our database and find some new references about S.R.T.”

Monica Panzaru

University of Vienna, Vienna, Austria

“During the secondment period at the University of Vienna (September-November 2015) I took fully advantage of the learning opportunities in which so kindly prof. Kirchler and other members of the team allowed me to partake at the Research Lab. I attended so far many seminars for Master students and also Phd students where I’ve took into account various research designs in various research fields, I found them to be very helpful and informative. Also I want to emphasize that all the seminars were held in English to facilitate the communication for the guests. Therefore I attended the weekly seminars “Theory and Empiry” and the PhD Research Seminar. In addition to that, prof. Kirchler facilitated my attendance to another workshop held by Donal Crilly – London Business School “Time, space and intertemporal choice – Why approaching the future makes short-term thinking”. I also want to stress that one of the most interesting Phd Seminars I attended was about “Missing Data Analysis” held by Ing. Mag. Andreas Pfaffel as well as “Power of effect and research biases” held by Mag. Jerome Olsen. Regarding the logistic aspects and the infrastructure I have to mention that from the very first day I received the key to an office, my personal working space and the password to access the virtual library. I communicated very well with all team members. This secondment provided me the opportunity to enlarge my scientific horizons. All in all this experience significantly contributed to my development as an early stage researcher. Having the chance to take contact with researchers focused on Economic Psychology was a great addition to my research framework”. I also attended the IAREP+SABE Joint Conference, Sibiu, Romania, 3rd-6th September 2015 by presenting “The Worldwide Diffusion of the Social

Representations Theory in the Thematic Field of “Economics, Advertising, Marketing and Organisational Context”. Verbally stated during the meeting: working hours in Vienna were 8 to 17.

Carlos Filiberto Miguel Aguilar

University of Belgrano, Buenos Aires, Argentina

“University of Belgrano and University of Buenos Aires, thanks to the collaboration with Professor Susana Seidmann, gave us access to the physical library resources and digital, to the areas of computing and stay in areas for students, in the first moment the workspace was the library of the University of Belgrano, although we had difficulties with access to the internet. Also through the professor Susana Seidmann we had multiple contacts with different researchers , that we invited for the video-interviews as complementary research tool. The work done with the Professor Susana always helped me and the other two master students (Ivana Moscano and Ilenia Impei) from Sapienza University who have collaborated with me to accomplish our goal of gathering new bibliographic sources (165 new Pdf have been retrieved in total) and make contacts with some teachers who work on Social Representations Theory in Buenos Aires. In addition to conduct 125 meta-theoretical analyses conducted during this period and 4 video-interview, I followed some courses and I attended the conferences: • “Open access: Research, Publish and Share” by Argentine Center of Scientific and

Technological Information and National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CAICYT-CONICET) on 22/10/2015

• VII Congreso Internacional de Investigacion y Practica Profesional en Psicologia on 23/10/20

Filomena Berardi

University of Valencia, Spain

“The secondment experience has taken place at University of Valencia (Spain) during the month of September, October and November 2015 under prof. Juan Antonio Perez supervision. The activities took place in several places I was allowed to access: the library, the social psychology lab, Juan Antonio Perez and Mariangeles Molpeceres’s offices and were articulated as following: • time dedication to retrieving Pdf files, by both searching in scientific databases which could be accessed and scanning publications found only in physical format and conducting the 36 related meta-theoretical analyses. • participation in the online Skype monitoring meetings • weekly participation (2 hours per week) in seminars and informal scientific discussions conducted in prof. Juan Antonio Perez’s office concerning the relevance of experimental research design in the realm of social representations. To this regard, some of the main themes that can be developed through experimental research design were addressed: “How can social representations theory paves the bridges between the cognitive aspect of prejudice and the psychology of hatred? What is the difference between animalistic form of dehumanization and ontologization and on which theoretical apparatus are based? How the relationship between the majority and minorities has changed during the last 20 years together with society’s ethical changes?” The aforementioned topics and themes were very important for getting a richer picture on the state of knowledge dynamic in social representations literature and social psychology.”
