On behalf of the Board of Trustees and staff of Merrimack Repertory Theatre, we wish to express our sincere gratitude to MRT’s donors, subscribers and patrons. Under the

continued leadership of Artistic Director Charles Towers, Merrimack Repertory Theatre has achieved artistic and fiscal success.

The 2012- 2013 season contained a strong mix of contemporary and relevant plays. MRT began the season with Homestead Crossing, a play written by Massachusetts’ own William Donnelly and ended with David Mamet’s modern classic Glengarry Glen Ross. In between we traveled to a modern day living room on New Year’s Eve, got a behind-the-scenes glimpse of a traveling theatre company, peeked inside William Shakespeare’s 17th-century England, slipped into Mark Rothko’s New York City studio, sat on a back porch in Chicago and joined Lowell’s own Jack Kerouac on a day-long journey.

Beyond our artistic achievements, MRT ended Fiscal Year 2013 in the black for the eighth consecutive year. We recognize that this notable accomplishment would not be possible without the support of generous corporate sponsors, individual donors, the Massachusetts and local Cultural Councils and the City of Lowell.

MRT remains focused on its mission to “to advance the cause of human understanding by creating theatrical productions at the highest level of artistic excellence and making them affordable to the broadest possible community.” This mission statement keeps MRT poised for future success, ensuring that MRT is committed to artistic and financial growth while remaining a vital part of our community.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Nancy L. Donahue Debra GrossmanChair President

SPECIAL EVENTSSPECIAL EvENTS

The Friends of MRT is a fundraising auxiliary that hosts special events, social functions and fundraisers. This vital group plays a pivotal role in strengthening Merrimack Repertory Theatre’s base of support, often by introducing people to MRT for the first time.

“This auction is always a fun evening out, but I feel this was our best one to date! We were able to garner more sponsors and community support than ever. Susan Wornick was amazing as always, and provided us with some hilarious entertainment during the live auction, which featured some fabulous prizes. We raised a lot of money for a very worthy cause, one that

certainly adds to our community.” -Joellen Scannell, Chair, Friends of MRT

Friend-raiserOn October 22, 2012, the Friends of MRT hosted a Friend-raiser at the Nancy L. Donahue Theatre in Liberty Hall. Forty guest members attended the event, which led to eight new Friends.

Holiday Basket RaffleDuring the performances of Half ‘n Half ‘n Half, the Friends of MRT held their 12th annual Holiday Basket Raffle. Lee Allard and John Walsh each won a basket that included cash, jewelry, gift certificates to local and national restaurants and wine. The Friends raised $14,821 in support of MRT.

Wine and Beer TastingOn a snowy night on March 19, 2013, 100 people gathered together in the MRT Rehearsal Hall to sample fine wine and food. Tutto Bene brought eleven wine and beer vendors to delight attendees with the newest samples of fine wines and brews. This event raised $5,753 in support of MRT’s programs.

A Cause for Applause AuctionThe 2013 auction, A Cause for Applause, was an evening of high-end auction items, fine wine and gourmet food. The event took place on June 20, 2013 at the University of Massachusetts Lowell’s Inn and Conference Center. The evening included a silent auction and a live auction led by Susan Wornick. With $117,030 raised in support of MRT’s educational and community outreach programs, the evening was a fundraising success.

“Thank you for paying for the tickets for us to go. It was a very special experience. The play was so funny and if you hadn’t paid for us, I feel like we would not have gone and had that awesome experience like we did. I hope we can go again to watch a different play because the experience opened up my heart to watch a lot more plays just like this one. It was very special and tremendous experience that I will always remember for the rest of my life.”
