EPCM Sector

The Sector which having group of contractor companies and is a prominent form of contracting agreement in the construction industry. The engineering and construction contractor will carry out the detailed engineering design of the project, procure all the equipment and materials necessary, and then construct to deliver a functioning facility or asset to their clients. Companies that deliver EPC Projects are commonly referred to as EPCM Contractors.“ENGINEERING PROCUREMENT CONSTRUCTION & MANAGEMENT COMPANIES”

Other Related Sectors:

PMC- “Project Management Consultancy”

PMC stands for Project Management Consultant or Project Management Contract. Under a project management contract an engineering contractor will overlook the EPC Contractors work to ensure compliance with client scope of works.

Other terms for these type of services include Project Management Services (PMS) and Project Management Services Contracts (PMSC).

EPCM

EPCM (engineering, procurement, and construction management) is a common form of contracting arrangement for very large projects within the infrastructure, mining, resources and energy industries. In an EPCM arrangement, the client selects a head contractor who manages the whole project on behalf of the client. The EPCM contractor coordinates all design, procurement and construction work and ensures that the whole project is completed as required and in time. The EPCM contractor may or may not undertake actual site work.

An EPCM contract is a natural progression for an EPC contractor as, if one is able to do an EPC of a project, then getting a bigger EPCM job is advantageous. It helps to tap the already present competencies while ensuring better control over the project. Also, the value of the project managed through an EPCM contract is far greater than the individual EPC contracts.

Normally, an EPCM contractor completes the basic work such as site surveys, getting clearances from authorities, doing the basic engineering and preparing the site for the subcontractors. Subcontractors are chosen by the EPCM company, but they have an agreement directly with the final customer (investor).

EPIC “Engineering Procurement Installation Commissioning”

EPIC stands for Engineering Procurement Installation Commissioning is typically a Lump Sum Turn Key (LSTK) type Contract integrating the responsibility going from the conception to the final acceptance of one or more elements of a production system. It can be awarded for all, or part, of a field development.

LSTK “Lumpsum Turnkey” LSTK stands for Lump Sum Turn Key. This is a contractual

agreement in which a fixed price is agreed for the execution of a project or part of a project. Once the final development is completed a finished functioning asset is handed over to the client, hence the term "Turn Key" which effectively means ready to operate.

An owner decides for an EPC contract for reasons that include:

Reduced stress for owner easy work and growth of the company. Single point of contact for owner simplifies communications. Ready availability of post-commissioning services Ensures quality and reduces practical issues faced in other ways Owner protected against changing prices for materials, labour, etc. Cost is known at the start of the projectBesides the plant sitting, in an EPC contract the

owner defines: Scope and the specifications of the plant Quality Project duration Cost The cost (the price to be paid to the EPCC) is negotiated and

finalised and paid in mutually agreed instalments.

DEFINATIONS DFR “DETAILED FEASIBILITY REPORT” The Feasibility Report constitutes one of the most important steps in the

decision-making process involved with embarking on a project. Approvals from financial institutions and Clients' Managements are based on the viability of the project, and a proper Feasibility Report / Study provides an unbiased and authentic evaluation of this viability.

Essential features of a bankable Report include proper technical basis, accurate cost estimates with back-up quotations from Vendors, appropriate market surveys and realistic financial analyses

FEED “FRONT END ENGINEERING DESIGN”

FEED stands for Front End Engineering Design. The FEED is basic engineering which comes after the Conceptual design or Feasibility study. The FEED design focuses the technical requirements as well as rough investment cost for the project. The FEED can be divided into separate packages covering different portions of the project. The FEED package is used as the basis for bidding the Execution Phase Contracts (EPC, EPCI, etc) and is used as the design basis.Cont….

Page 20: Mepl presentation

A good FEED will reflect all the clients project specific requirements and avoid significant changes during the execution phase. FEED Contracts usually take around 1 year to complete for larger sized projects. During the FEED phase there is close communication between Project Owners and Operators and the Engineering Contractor to work up the project specific requirements.

PROPOSAL

This is the type of quotation which prepared by EPC Companies. It defines process involve to complete the requirement of Client with involving the factors like Quality/Standards, Cost & Estimation, Total Duration of Project & etc.

Finally client will decide a L1 (Lower One) Company after a bid/tender. Who is responsible for Detailed Engineering.

Detailed Engineering

Detail Engineering Design (DED) is the essential bridge between the basic engineering design and construction phase of a project in order to convert the ideas into reality. DED involves close coordination and synchronization among various disciplines of engineering, all in house resources for interactive and progressive manner. With having the DED, is vital to the owner flexibility time to execute the project.

A dedicated team of reliable and knowledgeable managers, engineers and designers who are able to provide the complete detail engineering design solution.

Computer aided design techniques are extensively used as design aids to help develop optimum layout & design to assure maximum construction, operational & maintenance convenience, and detailed construction drawings with bill of materials are extracted automatically from the system, ensuring highest degree of accuracy and error-free drawings.
