2 THOMPSON RIVERS UNIVERSITY WOLFPACK

There has been a lot of excitement surrounding the Spring 2018 Thompson Rivers University WolfPack baseball team. Again this year, coach Ray Chadwick has scoured the country looking for top talent. In addition, he has a number of core veterans who have returned to the team after losing the championship final of the 2017 Canadian Collegiate Baseball Conference.

Tyler Hodder from Fort McMurray, AB is back for his third year with the program and will again be the team’s number one starting pitcher. Hodder has been nothing short of brilliant in his first two seasons of CCBC competition. A two time all-star, he has also possessed the league’s best ERA.

Other all-stars back for 2018 are infielder Malik James from Woodby, ON, designated hitter Vance Fode from Bow Island, AB, and infielder and utility player Josh Hillis from Calgary, AB.

Josh Hillis and fellow utility player Jordy Cunningham from Delta, BC are the lone graduating players in 2018.

Chadwick has a strong pitching staff anchored by Hodder. Other veterans expected to provide big contributions are Scott Wood from Stratford, ON, Regan Gillis from Fort McMurray, AB, Dillon Ferguson from Kirkland, WA, Josh Snider from Moses Lake, WA, and Joe Siniscalchi from Burnaby, BC.

The WolfPack has a number of veterans who lead an infield and outfield deep in talent. They include Taylor Van Ham from Medicine Hat, AB, Josh Iannetti from Fort McMuray, AB, Nick Peters from Maple Ridge, BC, and Qwinn Nesplak from White Rock, BC.

New faces who should provide top performances include Justin Beaumont from Winnipeg, MB, Jackson Dartnell also from Winnipeg, MB and Zac Comeault from Maple Ridge, BC. All three have spent time with the University of Winnipeg Wesmen baseball program.

Chadwick is looking for big outings from sophomores Aaron Lemoine and Adam Filmon, both from Winnipeg, MB. Rookies Matt Pidlisecky from Abbotsford, BC and Josh Bromley from Cranbrook, BC have also been highly touted.

The WolfPack will again have Spring Training in Arizona and will be hosting the CCBC year-end tournament which doubles as the National championships at Norbrock Stadium in May.

Bryant was named the top pitcher at the 2014 provincial championships while a member of the Kamloops River Dogs. If he could play for another varsity team it would be basketball. Something his teammates might not know about Bryant is that he can cook. His biggest influence was the late Roy Halliday because he was a great pitcher for the Blue Jays. Bryant enjoys hockey and basketball. His favourite number is the number one. His favourite colour is blue and he enjoys rap music. Jim Carrey is his favourite actor with Dumb and Dumber his favourite movie. If he could dine with a famous person it would be Clayton Kershaw of the Los Angeles Dodgers because Bryant considers him to be the best pitcher in the league. Bryant says his favourite visiting stadium is Elks Stadium in Kelowna because he always pitches well there. If you saw Bryant at karaoke he would be singing “Party for Two” by Shania Twain. His advice to rookies would be, “Don’t let the time you have playing university baseball pass you by.”
