Men in Black 3

Synopsis: Even though agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) have been protecting the Earth from alien scum for many years, J still does not know much about his gruff partner. J soon

gets an unexpected chance to find out what makes K tick when an alien criminal called Boris the Animal (Jemaine Clement) escapes, goes back to 1969, and kills K. With the fate of the planet at stake, J goes back in time and teams up with K's younger self (Josh Brolin) to put things right.

Comparison of synopsis to the trailer: The order of the trailer appears to match the order of the film synopsis as the events are mostly in the right order. There are examples throughout the trailer where the main event, the alien invasion, is edited to fit across the whole trailer in snippets. I think this was done, and hinted at, to tell the story without giving away one of the crucial parts of the narrative.

In regards to equilibrium, when everything appears to be normal or calm, this is shown at the beginning of the trailer.

However, most of the trailer is full of disruption or disequilibrium, and in this case it is the alien invasion and the mysterious death of agent K. This directly relates to the synopsis.

In most narratives, they end with a new equilibrium, but in this “Men in Black 3” trailer it finishes with a brief overview of the dilemma that agent J (Will Smith) faces, as a character. The use of cross-cutting to show all the action in the film, relates to the trailer, and synopsis, in a short amount of time.
