Special guest from Cuba - Lazaro Pompa - will transport you to a Cuba of yesteryears with his exquisite trumpet playing and vocals. CubanOz will pay tribute to artists such as Buena Vista Social club and also showcase original compositions from the collective members.

He has appeared on many TV programmes and cruise ships and was one of only 11 Semi-Finalists world-wide in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition. Liam has been described by James Morrison as a “great ambassador for Jazz”. This is his fourth BJC appearance.

This harmonically and rhythmically rich landscape features two keyboard players - Cleon Barraclough and Wil Sargisson, Kelsey Giarola using her voice as an instrument and Joe Marchisella providing world class rhythmic nuance.

2018 sees The Swinging Brisbane Big Band enter a new and exciting phase in its 44 year history with some new licks and new tricks. Under the direction of Brad Esbensen the band has progressed over the past few years from a ‘happy-go-lucky’ dance band to a highly-respected jazz band, able to tackle and perform a wide range of favourite and original big band music. Host and Vocalist Alan Western also celebrates his 29th year fronting the band and welcoming the many vocalists who are eager to sing with the BJC’s resident band.
