1) Cupola furnace:

1) Cupola furnace:
- It is the most popular melting furnace.
- It is shaft-like vertical furnace consisting of a steel shell lined with refractory bricks, equipped with tuyeres (nozzles for blowing air).
- Iron, coke and limestone flux are charged by means of an opening locating in the upper half of the steel shell.
- The liquid iron is periodically (or continuously) removed through a spout.

2) Electric Arc furnace:

2) Electric Arc furnace:
- It is a steel making furnace,- in which steel scrap is heated and melted by heat of electric arcs striking between the furnace electrodes and the metal bath.- The furnace consists of a spherical hearth (bottom), cylindrical shell and a swinging water-cooled dome-shaped roof. - The main advantage of the Electric Arc Furnaces is it’s Capacity which may reach 400 t.

3) Induction furnace:
- Induction furnaces are widely used for melting non-ferrous and ferrous alloys.
- There are two types of induction furnaces: a) Coreless induction furnace. b) Channel induction furnace.

a) Coreless induction furnace:
- It is consists of: a water cooled helical coil made of a copper tube, a crucible installed within the coil and supporting shell equipped with trunnions on which the furnace may tilt.
b) Channel induction furnace:
- It is consists of a steel shell lined with refractory materials and an inductor attached to the shell. There is a channel connecting the main body with the inductor.
