*Answer: We are tied with University of Michigan for the second most K12s with 7. (UCSF has the most 8). We are also in the top 7 in the country for all TG mechanisms (T32s, R25, K12s, T35s, TL1, KL2).

Please stress the sharing of grants. I plan to do another call in January asking for updates. We’ve had quite a few requests for example of grants using the new R&R requirements (Jan. 25, 2016 and after) so would be nice to get a few in there….Also looking for summary statements from Training Grants in particular. Would be nice to have more from unsuccessful applications so we can share with others what people are getting dinged on. WILL NOT INCLUDE NAMES JUST GENERAL THEMES.

NIH Mock Study Sections (MSS) • Since 2014, over 60 faculty have reviewed 28 grants in

clinical/translational science, with more than 125 predocs, postdocs, fellows and junior faculty observing the session.

• First cohort - 3 of the 4 grants submitted to NIH were funded! (75% success rate)

Costing model: Developed using formula based on No. of training grants/trainees/mentor per dept. Current status: on hold as there are many large IT infrastructure projects underway across the university; the TG database would be dependent on many of these. Faculty database, Research Management System, new HR/student systems (Oracle and Workday). We are involved in the vetting on the systems, and will work to try and incorporate training grant needs in each system. Can then go from there to fill holes.

Developed this manual as we frequently get the question “I’m new to administering training grants where do I start?” This manual is a guidance for administrators, as all training grants are different. Comprehensive “manual” Covers topics ranging from recruitment, financial administration, to RCR resources at WU, project closeout, etc. The forms are not mandatory but can be good starting points if you want to develop things for your own training programs. Forms are all available via the TG Amin. Folder on Box. This doc. Will be updated annually, and stay tuned as we are working with the OVCR to develop a training grants online training module. Thanks to SPA, OSRS, CRTC staff and several Training Grant administrators for their edits/contributions to this doc.

Like faculty opportunities, this is one potential platform to capture some of the missing holes in TG data collection. As Ryan will demonstrate, this simple platform can help track numbers and demographics of postdocs. Also a centralized application place. Currently, the postdoc process is quite decentralized. Some opportunities posted through TAM, some on dept. websites, Office of Postdoc Affairs, emailed directly to PI….hard for applicants to find opportunities/track numbers.
