-roof-There has been some leaking in Mr. Bells hall and the primary hall. The company islooking into replacing some of the shingles.

Head Lice Training Session This will take place on Tues. Oct. 13 in the staff room. There have been more volunteers thisyear to check the kids hair. The kids are being told how to prevent the spread by not sharinghats or combs.

Combined Home & School, School Council Meetings? To avoid BM having to go to two meetings and present the same information, he would like thetwo groups to meet on the same night and start together to hear the principals report. The twogroups can then have separate meetings or choose to meet together when required. JA voicedconcern over the administration of the meetings. BM said that himself or Jen would always

attend the meetings. They would alternate between the two. JA wondered if it would be betterto have the same administration attend the meetings to avoid confusion.

Ministry Discussion Paper Supporting Learning and Teaching in Ontarios ElementarySchools

    -on Ministrys website-over crowded curriculum?-www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/parents/curriculum.html

Please visit the website and voice your opinion on the curriculum. The Ministry would like tohear from parents, teachers and principals from all grades about what you think.

School Trips -grade 6 is going to Wanikita. The cost is $200.-Grade 7 is going to St. Donat. The cost is $600. The students are exposed to the Frenchculture and have a great outdoor experience doing such things as tubing and skiing.-Grade 8 is going to Quebec City. The cost is $600. The students enjoy this beautiful city andget the opportunity to visit a variety of historical locations. The number of students attending the Grade 7 and Grade 8 trips this year has declined. BM isconcerned that the cost of the trips may be a financial burden to many families and it might betime to look at some other options that are less expensive for the parents. Suggestions?

TREASURERS REPORTSee attached. All the receipts are in for 081 & 09 and Home & School has $2,248 to spend. This ismore than was expected. The Home & School has approved $775 to be used to purchase track and field shirts (request for thegym program). These shirts will also be used for the cross county teams. Voted that $1500 total thisyear go to the physical educational department. Was voted and no opposition.

ELECTIONAll of last years executive is stepping down. MC asked if anyone at the meeting was willing to step intoany on the roles.Mary Gillis will continue as our Teacher Representative.Michelle Chin is now the Website Editor and Past PresidentJenny Pepper is the new TreasurerNicole Ferris will continue as Co-Secretary with Michelle ChinNo one stepped forward as President or Vice-President. The Home & School will have to continue tofunction without these positions. We will have to rotate members chairing the meetings until apresident is found. MG has offered to chair the next meeting.MC We need people to do smaller parts of the big job. We need people to run events or they will have

    to be cancelled.

    INITIATIVES FOR 2009-2010

QSP Magazine Fundraiser The company has given us a bonus of $600 for being loyal customers. There has been some concern voiced over how long it takes the subscriptions to arrive. Perhaps theycould send in advance a gift card to anyone who gives a subscription as a gift. We would also look intothe kids getting magazine subscriptions as prizes instead of plastic toys. MC to contact Craig Robertsto develop these ideas. A big thanks to Krista Darling for running this fundraiser.

Food 4 Thought MG initiated a snack program last year that made snacks available to kids in the school who neededthem. This year we would like to expand on the idea. The plan is for each class room to have a weeklybin which will contain fresh fruit and sandwiches starting October 19th. These bins will be available tothe students who need it without them having to ask for help. The bins will be taken to the Day CareCentre at Knox Church which has agreed to help us by properly sanitizing the bins. (There are nofacilities at Dundas Central that.would meet the ministrys guidelines for proper cleaning). We needvolunteers to help with food preparation, transportation of the bins and distribution at the school. If youcan help, please contact MG or MC. Proceeds from the holiday baskets will go towards supporting thisprogram.

Active Recess BM-25 grade 7&8 kids have signed up to run activities at recess with the primary grades. This will bewith the supervision of BM and Wally. The will run 3 on 3 and skipping games.2nd part get more balls into the classrooms. The phys ed department is going to purchase new balls,so the old balls will be placed into the classrooms. There is enough for 2-3 balls each and they will bemonitored by the teachers. These are to be used for nutrition break only. We would like to encourage

the kids to bring in balls to school as well. The next newsletter will provide a list of things that can bebrought into the school.Teachers and volunteers are now wearing vests in the Kindergarten pen.

Winter Clothes Closet Will be held the first week of Nov. have no leader Dorothy Crowe has offered to help. Needsomeone to empty the bins daily and set up. The preview will be the day before and we need toarrange with St. Augustines to pick up the left over clothes the next morning.

Family Movie Night? In Nov? BM: Need to have enough notice to have the gym, but do not get reservations from Board untilSeptember. MC- Then we need to reserve dates say in June. Do we want to have a dance in Feb?Sara will work with BM to find a date. JA was wondering if we could use movie night to have another

initiative such as a literacy night.

Monopoly Tournament.MP brought forth a new fundraising idea. Parish and him would like to run a monopoly tournament.Hasboro would work with us. MP will make a presentation at the next meeting as he need to have asmuch notice as possible to run this kind of fundraiser.
