PRESIDENT’S CORNER

Greetings and a Happy Belated Easter to All !!

Although it has been a busy month for the Chapter we have

a mix of additional activities planned for May and June that

will bring our Program Year to a close.

Our annual all-day seminar, which was held on April 5th at

the Doubletree in Oak Ridge, was a HUGE success thanks

to the participation of our membership and your ongoing

commitment to professional development. The feedback

that I have received from participants has been extremely

positive and I would like to extend a special thanks to

Professor Bill Peterson for offering his time and expertise to

the NCMA of East Tennessee and to our NES Committee

(Edye Watt and Mark Bryan) for their tireless efforts in

coordinating and conducting this event in such a

professional manner.

For the month of May, to close out the Program Year with a

bang, we have three activities planned. The first will be

our General Membership Meeting on Wednesday May 3rd

and the topic of “Contract Division Metrics – What Tools

are in Your Toolbox” will be presented by two of our own

(Heidi Timmerman and Landon Hill). Heidi and Landon

provided this presentation at the 2016 NCMA World

Congress and it is extremely informative.

The second planned event is the “NCMA Bowling

Challenge” which will be conducted the evening of

Wednesday May 10th at the Oak Ridge Bowling Center.

This is a social event that will give us all a chance to network

and have some fun in a less formal environment. The event

will also be our first ever fundraiser for a local charity and

100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Oak Ridge Free

Medical Clinic. I hope to see you all there.

Finally, we will be hosting a Webinar on May 22nd at the

Pollard Auditorium. Participation in this educational

opportunity will be free to chapter members and the topic is

“Managing Risk through Contract Type Selection.”

Details on each of the above mentioned events are contained

in this newsletter and I look forward to seeing everyone on

May 3rd.

EDUCATION OPPORTUNITY

PRE-RECORDED WEBINAR: Managing

Risk through Contract Type Selection A wide selection of contract types is available to the

government and contractors in order to provide

needed flexibility in acquiring supplies and services

required by agencies. Contract selection during the ac-

quisition planning phase is critical in selecting the

compensation arrangement to motivate both parties to

mission success.

Key Take-Aways:

• Determine who will have least and maximum

cost risk in different types of contracts,

• Policies for selecting contract types,

• Distinguishing words and terms used to de-

scribe pricing arrangements from words and

terms used to describe delivery/quantity ar-

rangements, and

• Appropriate uses of incentive contracts.
