Happy Feast Day of St. Monica! This past week we had our first council meeting and began thinking about planning for the next three years. Our Parish Council includes the following parishioners: This council will serve as an advisory body to me and the rest of the staff. We are a nice mix of different races and cultures, young and old, new and long-time parishioners. Over the next few weeks we will be reflecting on the many ministries of St. Monica as part of our “Called to Share” Stewardship campaign. However, it is important that our ministries are effectively ministering Christ to you and the local community. The Parish Council, in addition to advising me, are supposed to listen to you. This is a group that wants to hear your voice and help make sure we are all journeying towards Christ together. This year, the council will be studying the many different cultures and languages that make up our parish and looking at ways we can see our diversity as a gift to be shared with others. As always, thanks for the gift that you are to our parish and have a great feast day weekend!

Peace, Fr.

Paz, P. Todd

Stewardship at St. Monica

MINISTRY SPOTLIGHT

KAIROS PRISON MINISTRY

ABOUT THE MINISTRY

The Kairos Prison Ministry addresses the spiritual needs of

incarcerated men, women, youth, and their families. By sharing

the love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ, Kairos brings a loving ,

forgiving God to the forgotten, and helps create a Christian

community within the prison setting.

SPIRITUAL GIFTS REQUIRED: Mercy, caring, hospitality

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

Attend A Retreat Teams meet five Saturdays to build a catholic team of inter-denominational women or men to lead the Thursday-Sunday weekend experience. The team grows together spiritually and deep bonds are formed through personal sharing, as an example to the incarcerated of how Christians can learn to trust and love.

Bake Cookies/Make Placemats In the weeks leading up to the retreat, people from all of the team members’ congregations bake as many as 50,000 cookies that are distributed to every offender and staff member in the prison. Placemats help make mealtime special.

Take a Prayer Shift Caring and faithful individuals take shifts praying around the clock for the team and the offenders during the entire retreat.

TIME COMMITMENT: Time required to support this ministry is

flexible. It can be as little as one hour of prayer on a Kairos

weekend, one-to-three hours baking cookies, or a weekend

spent at retreat.

HOW THIS MINISTRY MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Visiting the imprisoned is one of the Works of Mercy Jesus calls

us to do for others. Showing Christ’s love to others leads them

to Jesus and shows Jesus how much we love him.

TO GET INVOLVED

Contact Anna Brown-Mitchell at [email protected].

THE NEXT COOKIE BAKE TAKE S PLACE IN OCTOBER. PLEASE JOIN YOUR FELLOW PARISHIONERS IN THIS FUN ACTIVITY AND DEMONSTRATION OF CHRIST’S LOVE TO OTHERS.

We Are All “Called to Share”

Called to Share – in the next few weeks and months, we

will start to see these words quite often. Called to Share is the

phrase that will be used when referring to our annual support

of St. Monica: to our annual commitment of donating to the

Sunday collection and of our annual commitment to offering

time in ministry.

The weekend of September 12-13 will be our financial

Commitment Weekend. Everyone will be ‘Called to Share’

their financial gifts and will be

asked to complete a commitment

card indicating their support to

St. Monica’s Sunday collection for

the coming year.

DONES ESPIRITUALES REQUERIDOS: Misericordia, cuidado,

hospitalidad

Horneando Galletas/Haciendo Mantelitos Semanas antes

Llamado a

estamos haciendo.

Sometimes Life Gets Messy! From messy rooms to cluttered backpacks, social media to random thoughts that throw you off track

throughout the day, the chaos of the teen years can be overwhelming. This state of internal confusion and

external disarray can be frustrating (for teens and parents), but isn’t it good to know you’re not going

through it alone? Whether it’s a heavy class load, social pressures, or even your parents that have you

rattled, sharing the experience with teens who share your faith reminds you that you’re not alone...and can

be a fun and much needed release and reality check.

St. Monica’s Youth Ministry kicks off following 6:00 p.m. Mass on September 13. The kick-off event is for

the ENTIRE family as a means of launching the upcoming year's curriculum, calendar and most importantly

to build community for teens and parents.

Join us for 6:00 p.m. Mass and after Mass celebrate the uniqueness of being a teenager in today's world.

Parents are asked to attend an informal meeting to answer questions, dispel myths about youth ministry,

and meet the people behind the scenes. Teens will build community and recreate. Childcare is provided for

all ages with age appropriate activities. Dinner is provided. The evening will conclude by 8:30pm.

For questions about any aspect of Youth Ministry, contact Daniel Neri at 317-253-2193

or [email protected] or Chris Van Gessel at (260)-241-5325 or [email protected].

Youth Ministry Fall Kick-off Sunday, September 13 after 6:00pm Mass

Is it necessary to recycle? You decide! Did you know that the average American generates about 4 pounds of trash each day? That’s almost 6,000 tons of garbage, per person, in an 80-year lifetime! Think about what you threw away today and ask yourself, “Where is AWAY?” This year St. Monica would like to start a Recycling Team.

Typically, a club or team of student leaders led by a few key adults will champion recycling in a school or parish setting. This is a great structure, because, by recycling, students can really “make a difference” in their school, their community and in the world. Leadership is essential. If you or your child is interested in supporting this program, we will be hosting a KICKOFF meeting on Wednesday, SEPTEMEBER 2 from 3:30—4:30 pm. Please contact me if you are interested in joining me for the meeting by registering at http://whoozin.com/79W-37E-F3VK.

Can’t wait to see how recycling will benefit our school’s overall learning environment!

Mrs. Michelle Boyd Saint Monica Catholic School Principal ¿Es necesario reciclar? ¡Usted decide!
