feeling very happy. This is because they

are celebrating a very special

festival.The festival they are

celebrating is Hanukkah.

From that day to this, Jewish people have celebrated the festival of Hanukkah. It is a Festival of lights because of

the miracle of the oil lamps and it lasts for eight days because the oil lamps in the temple continued to burn for

eight days. We believe that, after the dark days when our ancestors were being bullied by the Greeks, the

victory of the Maccabee Jews brought light back into our lives.

Is that why we light a candle on each day

of our Hanukkah

That’s right Aaron. One candle is lit each evening until on the eighth day all the candles are burning. We use a special candle holder

called a hanukiah. It has nine branches with one candle on each branch. The ninth candle

is used to light all the other candles.

Special prayers are

said,songs are sung and

synagogues hold parties.
