Youcancreateteamsfordifferentclassperiods,projects,andactivitiesasneeded,andinviteothersintheschoolordistricttojoinasteammembers.TeamscanalsobecreatedbasedonexistingOffice365Groups,andanychangesmadetotheOffice365GroupswillautomaticallybesyncedinTeams.Thissimplifiestheprocessofinvitingandmanagingteammembers,andsavesgroupfilesinTeams.

Forexample,individualclassescanbefurtherorganizedintochannelsthatcontaintabsforconversations,files,notes,andmore.Channelscanbecreatedbasedontheclass’sdifferentneeds,forexample,byunit,subject,orbyproject-basedgroup.Tabsenabletheclasstoupload,review,andeditfiles,notes,andcustomizedcontent(suchasdocuments,spreadsheets,presentations,videos,externallinks,otherapplications,andmore).Thiscontentistheneasilyaccessibletoeveryoneintheclass.

Createyourteamandinviteteammembers

1. TolaunchTeams,gototheapplauncher–the“waffle” –intheupperleftcornerofOffice365for EducationandclicktheTeamstiletoopentheonlineapp,ordownloadittoyourdesktop.

Note:Ifyou’rehavingtroubleaccessingTeams,contactyourITAdmintomakesureyouhavetherightlicense.

2. Clickthe buttonatthebottomofthe channellistinTeams,thenclickthebuttonontheCreateateamandthenselectClass.

Note:IfyourschoolusesSchoolDataSync,yourclasseswillautomaticallybecreatedforyourwithstudentrostersconnectedtoyourschool’sinformationsystem,soyoudon’thavetoworryaboutthisstep.

3. IntheCreateyourteamwindow,nameyourclassandwriteabriefdescriptionthatexplainsthepurposeoftheclass,then clickthebutton.

Note:LeavethePrivacyoptionsettoPrivate—Onlyteamownerscanaddmembers(youcanchangethissettinglaterifneeded).

Beforeyoutrainyourclass,goaheadandcustomizethesetupofTeams.Beginbycreatingyourclass,settingupafewchannels,andaddingafewtabs.Thenseedafewtabswithsomerelevant,engaging,andhelpfulcontent.

4. Youcaneasilyaddpeople,groups,anddistributionlistsfromyourschoolordistrict.Asyoubegintypingnames,adropdownlistofpeopleinyouremaildirectorymatchingyourspellingwillappear.Clickthebutton toaddteammembers,orclickthe buttontoaddteammemberslaterif youwanttosetupyourcontentfirst(recommended).

Createafewkeychannelsandsometabswithgreatcontent

1. Whenyoucreateanewclass,aGeneralchannelisautomaticallyaddedtotheclass.Youcancreateadditionalchannelstokeepyourclassorganized.Bydefault,anyoneontheteamcanaccessthesechannels.

PostTeamstrainingtipsandannouncementstotheGeneralchannelforeasyreference.Thiswillbeaconvenientplacefortheentireclasstogethelpandguidance,butespeciallyusefulfornewmembersjoiningTeams.

2. Tocreateadditionalchannels,selecttheellipsesnexttoyourteamnameinthechannellistandselectAddChannelfromthedropdownmenu.

3. Inthedialogbox,nameyourchannelandwriteabriefdescriptionthatexplainsthepurposeofthechannel,thenclickthe button.

Onceyou’vecreatedafewchannels,youcanseedthemwithsomeactualcontentsothatyourclassdoesn’tseeablankpagethefirsttimetheylogin.Forexample,youmightstartanewconversationbypostingafewquestionsineachchanneltogetafewdiscussionsstartedand@mentionspecificclassmemberstopullthemintotheconversation.

4. Withinindividualchannels,youcancreatetabsfordifferentcontentandapplications.Severaldefaulttabsarecreatedwithineachchannel,includingConversations,Files,ClassNotebooks,andAssignments.Tocreateanewtab,clickthe+totherightofthedefaulttabs,thenselectanapporfileforthetab(suchasWordorPlanner),nameit,andclickthe button.

Note:Thesetup stepsforsomeapplicationsandservicesmaydifferslightlyfromtheinstructionsprovidedhere.

5. Tocreateanewtabthatlinksdirectlytoaspecificfile(suchasalessonplanoroutlineoraninteractiveclasspresentation),clickthe+totherightofthedefaulttabs,thenselecttheappforthefiletype(suchasaWorddocument,Excelspreadsheet,orPowerPointpresentation),browsetothefilenameunderFiles,namethetab,andclick thebutton.

YoucanpinanexistingOneNoteClassNotebookfromaSharePointsiteorotherwebsite( )directlytoyourchannelasatabforeasy teamaccess.

MoveemailconversationstoTeams

1. YoucansendemailstoachannelwithinTeamstokeepallyourclasscommunicationsorganizedandaccessibleinoneplace.Tocreateanemailaddressforachannel,clicktheellipsis()totherightofthe

channel,selectGetemailaddressinthe dropdownmenu,thenclickthebuttonandsavethe emailaddresstoyourcontactslistor emailaddressbook.

ForwardemailsintoachanneltocontinuediscussionsinTeams.

2. YoucanclicktheadvancedsettingslinkintheGetemailaddresswindowtolimitwhocansendemailstotheteam(forexampleanyone,onlyteammembers,oronlyemailssentfromspecifieddomains).

LimitingwhocansendemailstoachannelwillhelpreducethelikelihoodofreceivingspamorphishingemailsinTeams.

3. Youcancustomizeyouremailnotificationsettingsfordifferentevents(suchaspersonal@mentionsorrepliestoconversationsyoustart)byclickingonyourprofilepictureinthelowerleftcornerofTeams,thenselectingNotificationsfromthedropdownmenu.

Createclassassignments

1. TocreateassignmentsinTeams,clickAssignmentstabinyourclassTabthenclicktheNewAssignmentbuttoninthetoprightcorner.

2. IntheNewassignwindow,addyourassignmentdetailsandAttachreferencematerialsforyourstudents.YoucanscheduleaDuedateandTimedue,andevendecidewhetheryourwillallowLateturn-ins.Whenyou’redone,clickontheAssignbutton.

YoucansavetheassignmentasaDraftifyou’renotreadytodistributeityet.JustcomebacktoyourAssignmentstablatertoAssign.

3. ToReviewandGradestudents’work,headbacktotheAssignmentstabinyourclass.SelectReviewtoseealltheAssignmentsyourstudentshaveturnedin.

Youcanprovidefeedbackandnotesdownthelistorselectanindividualstudent’ssubmissiontoseetheirAssignment.Youcanalsonavigatetootherstudentsquicklyandeasilyrightfromthatview.

Reviewingwhatyou’velearnedaboutTeams
