Medical AssistantTraining Program

The Division of Continuing Education and Economic Development’s Medical Assistant Program trains individuals to work as medical assistants by educating them on the administrative and clinical skills required by the profession. All students are required to have Internet access outside of the college as training includes online coursework every week.

Program Approval

Students who successfully complete the training program are eligible to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant examination given by the American Medical Technologists Association. Students are not eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant examination given by the American Association for Medical Assistants.

CareerDescription

Medical assistants perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians, chiropractors and other health practitioners running smoothly. The duties of medical assistants vary from office to office but may include updating and filing patient’s medical records, arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services, taking medical histories and recording vital signs, and assisting physicians during examinations. The Department of Labor ranks medical assistants among the fastest growing occupations during the 2008-18 decade.
