INTRODUCTIONFor my A2 level media studies course work, my initial task is to complete two preliminary photographic and video assignments. These assignments will help me to reinforce my moving image theoretical knowledge and develop necessary compositional as well as video recording and editing skills. The aim purpose of both exercises are to help me familiarise with skills and techniques needed in short film production.

Photo story assignment 1- to create a photo stories entitles ’Conquer’ using the specific ten shots in order. Video assignment 2- continuity task involving filming and editing a sequence with clear narrative structure.

CONQUERPhoto Story

Synopsis- A young girl over comes her vertigo by going on the tallest slide in the water park.

THE PARADEVideo Assignment

Synopsis- A heart warming story of a young girl preserving and treasuring the memory of her deceased father by attending a military parade

The final footage was edited and assembled using Pinnacle Studio 15 video editing software.

BRIEF EVALUATIONSound is a very important aspect in films, it can reiterate the emotion and feeling behind each scene. To improve my short movie I included sound effects which ultimately made it more appealing to my test audience. Editing is also an important factor in film making, it gives the viewers a sense of the atmosphere by transitioning one shot into another. I could not work out how to edit this short film using different transitions, which is why it mainly ‘fades to black’.

In hindsight the sound tuning still needs to be worked on. Each piece needs to fade in volume as a new piece starts, which I did not achieve in this film. For my final film I will download sound tuning software so that the music and sounds sound professional composed. Additionally I will also download the correct transitioning software so that my final film will be edited to the best of my ability.
