For this unit we use Microsoft Word, a programme designed for the creation, editing and production of largely text-based documents.

We explore the skills and knowledge required by an IT User to use a range ofbasic word processing software tools and techniques to produce appropriate, straightforward or routine documents.

We link this unit closely to the Design Software unit, and part of the criteriainvolves learners planning out their up-coming personal design projects. Wealso examine certain documents that are key to employability, such as CVs.

There are 3 principle elements to the unit:

Enter, edit and combine text and other information accurately withword processing documents

We use Adobe Photoshop for this unit, a popular programme enabling usersto create, modify and layout designs for display in print or for an on screenpurpose.

This unit is about the skills and knowledge required by an IT user to use basicdesign software tools and techniques appropriately and producestraightforward or routine designs. However we can accommodate all levelsof expertise, from learners who have never used the software, to those whoalready have a good understanding of it.

In this unit learners will create several designs, including modifying existingimages, creating new designs with the help of tutorials and also creatingunique project ideas, once enough knowledge has been acquired.

There are 2 principal elements to the unit:

Obtain, insert and combine information for designs Use design software tools to create, manipulate and edit designs

    video

This unit has been designed to be adaptable and can accommodate the useof different software applications, depending on the course being delivered. Inour course we allow learners to use Adobe After Effects or Adobe PremierePro, creating projects that have eithervideo and/or animation and/or specialeffects foundations to them.

The unit includes understanding the capabilities of the software and the typesof tasks for which it is suitable, as well as the skills and techniques needed to

use the software application appropriately and effectively.

In this unit learners will usually create one main project, either as anindividual, or as part of a group. Previously acquired Photoshop skills alsooften come in useful and sometimes learners link this project to their designsoftware project.

As well as the actual video sequence, which will be the completed project, learners will evidence other key elements of their learning in another digitalworkbook.

There are 2 principal elements to the unit:

Input, organize and combine information using bespoke software Use tools and techniques to edit, process, format and present

    PORTFOLIO EXAMPLES

Arthur decided to use a model shot of hisgranddaughter and manipulate the

strawberry to look reptilian as she likeslizards. He also decided to incorporate a

moody sky for the backgroundRays Project:

    Arthurs Project:

rays initial idea was to makea DVD sleeve for a scary movie but the idea

evolved and he chose to simply create a horrorposter. Ray has demonstrated some advanced skillsusing lighting and shadows in particular and wasable to create a very atmospheric final design

    from multiple images.

    tammys Project:

Tammys idea was to cut out animage of her daughter sitting down andmove it to a fantasy location, sitting Little

Lilly on a magic toadstool. Tammy alsoincorporated several other fantasy images

such as pixies and butterflies to help bringthe new picture to life.
