weeks beore releasing her new

album.

Jade was rst bought into themedia eye aer reaching over400,000 views within 3 weeks oposting a video on Youube, buther career really began when shecame onto IVs Opening ActUK. Te 18 year old Urban artistwas hunted down by the team o

celebrity judges on the show andwas chosen to open or Rihannaon her UK tour.

Our Base correspondent was ableto interview the singer, backstageat the Jingle Bell Ball to get the exclusive details about her rst yearas a credited Urban artist.

Music has always been a huge parto Jades lie (her grandmotherwas a singer and her grandatherwas a music teacher at a localschool). Her amily claims thatwhile the other children wouldgo to the park or watch cartoons,Jade would be sitting in her roomlistening to music or playing thepiano. Music was her best riend,and that made her very easy to

handle. I would just turn on theradio and she would be occupied or hours says her motherbut McClunes innocence didntlast long. As she grew older andormed her own tastes and opinions, Jade seemed to preer urbanmusic to the classical Bach andMozart that she was bought upwith. At the age o thirteen, she

insisted on her mother enrollingher in hiphop dance classes andwould request her piano instruc

tor to teach hermore modern,contemporarysongs.

When she rststarted I thought

to mysel oh boy,this little girldenitely wonthave the attitudeneeded or hiphop but as soonas the musicstarted playing,she was in herown little world

When Jade was 17 years old, shedecided to tell her best riendabout her hidden talent. Pleasantlysurprised, her riend dared her topost a video on Youube, ensur

ing her that the eedback wouldbe positive. Te girls made a dealthat i Jade didnt reach 50 viewswithin 2 weeks, she would deletethe video and her singing talentwould be their little secret. o hersurprise, Jade got over 140 views

within those2 weeks, sowas orced

Te next thing I knew, singingon Youube became a part o myeveryday lie. Tat was when JadeMcClune, the Urban artist wastruly born. Her condence grewwith each video she posted andher passion or the Urban genrewas clear.

At the same time, producers at

IV were scouring the internet insearch o new armature singers orthe UK version o hit V show,Opening Act. One o the celebrity

judges came across Jade onYouube and pitched her to therest o the crew in a meeting.Aer listening to her rendition oJessie Js Price tag and BeyoncesListen, the producers were sold

and decided that she would be theperect opening act or Rihannas2012 UK tour. Jades mother wascontacted and gave consent orthe show to go undercover and

conront herdaughter aboutperorming onthe tour. It wasa terriying decision to make. Iwas scared andworried aboutmy little girlgoing on tour, working so

hard in rehearsals all day thenperorming all night, andmost o all being in the eyeo the public and the media.But I knew that it would be adream come true or Jade andI knew in my heart that this

missed

Tat December, Jade wasworking at a department storein her local shopping centre,when she was conronted byone o the producers o the

show, undercover as a customer.I went into the store, pretendingto be a normal customer who wasbuying a Rihanna CD as a Christmas gi and said she has an amazing voice, doesnt she? How wouldyou like to be the opening act or

her UK tour?A very conused Jade laughedo the question until she saw thecameras come out rom behindthe shelves. Te producer then introduced himsel and explained toJade that she was on a show calledOpening Act and that they wouldlike her to perorm on Rihannastour. O course, Jade agreedstraight away and the rest o thatepisode documented the ve daysup to the rst perormance at Londons O2 Arena.

During that tour, Jades ace wassplashed all over the newsstandsand her voice was heard on everyradio station. Te attention wasso weird to me. I had never hadanyone talk about me or care

about what I wore and where Iwent. I ound it very difcult tocope with the paparazzi at rstand I would get so pissed o thatthey were invading my privacy,but my managerkept telling methat I wouldhave to get usedto it. Its just the

price of fame.

But McCluneound the media scrutiny moredifcult to cope with than shehad imagined. In March 2012, shewas close to giving up her careeraer she was involved in a carcrash due to the paparazzi renzysurrounding her car. Luckily, noone was badly injured, but Jadesanger at the media was increasing. It wasnt just the paparazzi,it was also all o the magazinesand papers claiming that she

was anorexic and too thin to beUrban. However, that May, Jadewas signed to Syco record label(owned by Simon Cowell). Tatwas when the artists music careerreally took o.

McClune was perorming atvarious events (including a charity gala where she got to meet theQueen!) and on wellknown Vshows like Te X Factor throughout the summer o 2012, whilstspending long hours in the studio,working on her rst album.

When talking to Jade, she claimedthat the rst year o her career hadbeen a complete rollercoaster,saying that she had to hold onreally tight to make sure I didntall o .

However, with opening or aworldamous artist, meeting thequeen, perorming at the JingleBell Ball and releasing her ownalbum under her belt, we think

2012 has been a pretty impressiveyear or Miss McClune!

When questioned about thealbum, Jade said that it is called

Stronger and will bereleased on 21st December. Its a representation o me and allthe other teenage girls

out there it is a passion or music, love andheartbreak with a bit

o added attitude!

Stronger represents Jades determination to succeed as an urbanartist and how she wont backdown no matter what happens.

Jessie is actually a good friendof mine. Shes more than jsut

another Urban artist - shes my

mentor who guides me in the right

direction.

When I rst entered the music in-

dustry, I was skeptical about creat-

ing friendships with anyone in the

industry. I just assumed that they

had been turned into meaningless

singers rather than true Urban

artists. However, Jessie is nothinglike that; she puts her heart and

soul into every lyric she writes and

I love how candid she is about

everything. Jessie is my idol.

Jade on JAY Z

He is a musical genius! I think its

safe to say that Jay Z is the King of

Urban music.

He is actually the reason why I

became interested in this genre in

the rst place. There is so much

honesty and emotion behind every

lyric and I repect him for his per-

sonality as well as his music.

Jay doesnt mess about with the

way he looks, - hes focused on

his music and its clear to see hispassion for the industry, and thats

why I respect him so much.

Jade on NICKI MINAJ

She is an embelished, overstated,exaggerated PR puppet!

I respect Nicki for following her dream

and she seems to like music and sing-

ing, but her style and persona comes

accross as being more important than

the music itself, which just results in

terrible albums!

Imma call you afro cause youre

never bald - really?!

If she was to spend half as much time

on her music as she does on her bee-

hive of hair, then she might actuallybecome a reputable artist. Until then,

she is just giving Urban music a bad

name.
