CanoeKayak has traditionally been one of Canada’s top performing summer sports.•
Canada has won 24 Olympic medals in CanoeKayak since 1936.•
CanoeKayak was one of only two sports to win three medals at the London 2012 Olympic Games (1 silver and 2 bronze). •Swimming had the same medal total.
Canoeing has deep Canadian roots. The canoe was designed by the First Nations peoples and then adopted by explorers, •traders, and settlers. The C in “C-1” actually stands for Canadian and is the only Olympic event to be named after a country.
The Canadian war canoe (C-15) is a long-standing tradition amongst Canadian clubs and is a favorite race amongst many •every year at the Canadian Sprint CanoeKayak Championships which will be held in Montréal this year from August 27-31. Clubs will compete in the Bear Mountain War Canoe Challenge to demonstrate the sport to the World on Saturday and Sunday at the Junior and U23 World Championships.
