HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT

REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL

GROUP? EVALUATION 2

Page 2: Media evalution question 22

WHAT ARE THE SOCIAL GROUPS IDENTIFIED

• I HAVE CHOSEN TO HAVE GENDER AND AGE AS MY SOCIAL GROUPS BECAUSE THEY WERE SHOWN THROUGH MY OPENING WITHOUT ME REALLY TRYING HARD TO IDENTIFY THEM, BECAUSE OF MY INSPIRATION FROM OTHER THRILLER OPENINGS. STEREOTYPICAL VIEWS HAD TO BE USED TO SHOW THESES SOCIAL GROUPS IN A MORE OBVIOUS MANNER.

STEREOTYPICAL VIEWS • Gender: I have chosen a girl to be the main character and there are usually seen as being weaker than

the opposite sex, I have shown this because the girl is taken by the boy showing she is inferior to the superior sex of a male. The man is seen as having the most power in the scene because he has so much control over her, and because he is taking her. Women are seen as being emotional, so through the close-up of her face where she is looking scared this further demonstrates the stereotypical view of women. • Age: both the boy and the girl are both in their teens, and this is associated with them being loud,

troublesome and rebellious. This is only seen through the characterisation of the boy as he is performing a criminal act. Youths are also seen as being adventurous, which is seen through the girl as she is wondering the wood, showing she is looking for an adventure. I have chosen to stereotypically present these characters as I wanted it to be clear to the audience who they and what their intentions are.

TARGET AUDIENCE • I have related my characters through my research on the target audience because I have used

that feedback to make my film suit my audience. For example, the main character of the girl is based upon the feedback where I found out that it was mainly girls that wanted to watch my thriller, so making it identifiable for them would attracted a bigger audience. • I also wanted to make it suitable for the older audience and thought that using a young girl

would make most older women maternal instincts kick in and make them feel like they want to know what happens to her. For older males watching it I used the fast pace action and the thriller genre to intrigue them into wanting to watch this deep and twisted thriller. • For the younger boys I have used the character of the boy because it would almost remained

them of videogames they play and make them feel like they are this person.

PICTURES This is a stereotypical view of most teenage boys and I wanted to reflect this so the audience would instantly know who was the good and who was the bad. This what most

people think of when they think of youths but I wanted to take this and use a variety of colours to highlight the girls innocence and the danger she is in.

CONCLUSION

• OVERALL MY THRILLER OPENING ADDRESSES A PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUP OF AGE AND GENDER, BECAUSE THEY ARE BOTH CHARACTERS SHOWN THROUGHOUT MY THRILLER OPENING AND HAVE HAD AN AFFECT ON HOW MY THRILLER HAS/WILL BE PERCEIVED. I THINK ADDRESSING THESE SOCIAL GROUPS HAS LEAD MY THRILLER INTO THE EYES OF A WIDER AUDIENCE AS IT IS MORE APPEALING TO EVERYONE.
