Conventions from other texts- Editing

• Throughout we used slow paused editing as this is used in folk music such as ‘Charlie Simpson’s’ ‘Down Down Down’ and ‘Get cape wear Cape fly’s ‘I spy’ . This helped the music video as ‘Mad world’ like folk music is slow, so the editing helped this complement the music

Conventions of other Videos - lighting

• Also we used high key lighting as this is used in music videos such as ‘Never Shout Never’ ‘What is love’ video. This worked well as Folk music has connotations of peace which the high key lighting helped come across.

Charlie Simpson- ‘Down Down Down’

Our Video

Conventions of other videos –Switch between narrative and

performance.

• We also had a performance piece in the video as this is normally common of folk videos such as ‘Charlie Simpson’s ‘Down Down Down’ or ‘Get Cape Wear Cape Fly’s video ‘I Spy’. We cut between performance and narrative to make the video more interesting.

Conventions of other videos –Switch between narrative and

performance.

• Here is an example of this from Charlie Simpsons video ‘Down Down Down’

Conventions of other videos – Switch between narrative and performance

• I think this technique worked successfully as it helped keep people engaged as it give more

Websites which inspired my website

Websites which inspired my website –Colour scheme

• We chose to use the colour scheme of grey, black, white and red which the websites of ‘Gary Jules’ and ‘Get cape wear Cape Fly’ used .This gave it a more modern street feel which we had used in the video in the couple scene in London.

How was my text style inspired

From these sites text style I decided a soft looking round text style would be appropriate for the genre. I think this helped as reach our target audience of folk music fans.

General web site and music website conventions I used

• In my own web site I borrowed the idea of having a banner from Gary Jules website. This was effective to have as this would give the audience a easy way of navigating the website.

Didgi pack colour scheme

• Both these websites used the same colour scheme for their latest album so we decided the same colour scheme for the didgipack.

How did the didgi pack and CD relate to the video

• For the website I used the colour grey as the dominant colour which give it a clear link to our video as it relates to the scene in the street with the couple arguing . The red also matched the red brick buildings from the video.

Why we chose this street feel

• This street fill challenges conventions of traditional folk music and makes it more desirable for a younger audience. The sites of ‘Get cape wear Cape Fly’ and ‘Gary Jules’ who both attract younger audiences had this colour scheme.

Camera

• For the second couple scene I helped record some of the shots.

The editing process

• I used the cutting to tool to cut shots which were too long and I used the some of the fading effects to make shots transitioned smoothly between each other. I also used the faders to make sense go into each other smoothly.

Word press

• I used ‘Word Press’ to show all my research and planning.

You tube

• We also used the site ‘You tube’ to find other products of the same genre to give us inspiration for the video.

Dream wether

• We designing the website I used photo shop to create the visuals of the site and dream weaver to make it.

My Personal contribution

• For the second couple scene I helped record some of the shots. I also helped by doing some of the editing process.

My Personal contribution

• For the editing process I helped with final cut pro.

How could the video beimproved?

Feedback-Bus

• We also had mixed responses about the bus traveling backwards. We were told it gave it an interesting effect, but was out of place and didn’t relate to the narrative making it more confusing.

Feedback-narrative

• From the feedback I have learnt that it is important to make sure the story line comes across clearly which was a problem with our music video some of the scenes seem a bit out of place such as the shots with the birds and the boat shot. If we had been able to get more shots of the narrative and extended the story line we could have easily cut these out.

Feedback-Bus

• Although we were trying to get across that the second couples in the video were a happy couple who were contrasting the first this did not come across properly and looked out of place. If we had extended the story of the first couple and maybe shown more scenes of with them so we could be more aware of the context of why they are fighting the audience may have felt more close to the characters.

Feedback Clouds

• We were told that the last part with the speed up clouds gave a new nice close to the video, as it helped amplify this ‘Mad World’.

Feedback -

• Extreme close ups could have also made the audience feel more sympathy for the characters. The long shots detached the audience from the characters which was not intended.

Feedback-Narrative

• Although we were trying to get across that the second couples in the video were a happy couple who were contrasting the first this did not come across properly and looked out of place. If we had extended the story of the first couple and maybe shown more scenes of with them so we could be more aware of the context of why they are fighting the audience may have felt more close to the characters.
