A mechanized rack for manipula t ing bi l lets in the rolling mil l auxil iaries in the rolling department No. 1
(figure) was developed and adopted at the Makeevka Meta l lurg ica l Works. The rack consists of a car, cast- i ron beams, a pull ing winch, repeater blocks with tension bridles and stops. In order tO c lean bil lets, 106, 125 mm square and 3800-4900 m m long, they are p laced on the cast- i ron beams of the rack by using a pratzcu crane. Then their top surfaces are subjected to f lame scarfing,
Before the bi l lets are t i l ted , the roller bat teries (figure) should be l if ted, then the mechanism of the t rave l ing- down t i l ter should be switched in. Moreover, a sound signal is switched on and in 18-20 sec the t i l ter begins to move. It passes under the bil lets lying on the rack. When the t ravel ing-down t i l te r moves, the bi l lets are l if ted on the toi ler bat ter ies , and on dropping on the rack beams, they are t i l ted by 90% In the ext reme positions of the t i l ter , the roller bat ter ies are lowered and l i f ted when the lever travels over the stop. When the t ravel ing-down t i l te r stops, the sound signal is switched off. Then the mechanism of movement is switched on in the reverse d i - rect ion.
The tension bridle on the repeater blocks and the couplings on the t ravel ing-down Niter e l imina te the non- uniform pull ing of the cable strands. The adoption of the rack made i t possible to free four operators for other work.
