DR. CARY ADAMS Dr. Adams is Chief Executive Officer, Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), Chair, NCD Alliance. Born in London, Cary Adams has a BSc Honours degree in Economics, Computing and Statistics from the University of Bath, United Kingdom and a Masters degree (with Distinction) in Business Administration. He is a Harvard Business School Alumni, 2003. In 2009, Cary made a career change, moving from the management of international businesses in the banking sector to become CEO of UICC based in Geneva. UICC unites the cancer community to reduce the global cancer burden, to promote greater equity, and to integrate cancer control into the world health and development agenda. Its rapidly increasing membership base of over 830 organisations more than 150 countries features the world’s major cancer societies, ministries of health and patient groups and includes influential policy makers, researchers and experts in cancer prevention and control. UICC also boasts more than 50 strategic partners. Cary is also Chair of the NCD Alliance, a coalition of around 2,000 organisations working on non-communicable diseases, which include cancer, diabetes, heart, respiratory, mental and neurological diseases. In 2014 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in International Relations from the University for Business and International Studies in Geneva, and in 2015 an Honorary Doctorate in Health from Bath University in the UK. In May 2015, Cary was awarded “CEO of the year” at the International and European Association conference organised by the Associations Network.

DR. MAGNA AIDOO Dr. Aidoo is Health Advisor at the Commonwealth Secretariat and the lead person on NCDs. Prior to the Secretariat she worked with the National Health Service, UK, as Public Health Generalist. Where was recognised for being instrumental to the agenda of Non-Communicable Diseases among minority populations. Other areas of specialism include HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health and immunisation, mental health. Dr. Aidoo is on UK Public Health Registry after completing a lengthy training in communicable and non-communicable disease including the management of diseases out breaks. She was recognised for her leadership in bringing a major outbreak of e-coli in a children’s nursery to a positive outcome. Last, but not the least, Dr. Aidoo has been as Associate Lecturer at Goldsmith University, London for over 20 years teaching Organisational Management to Master students.

SIR GEORGE ALLEYNE Sir George Alleyne, a native of Barbados, became Director of the Pan American Sanitary Bureau (PASB), Regional Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) on 1 February 1995 and completed a second four-year term on 31 January 2003. In 2003 he was elected Director Emeritus of the PASB. From February 2003 until December 2010 he was the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean. In October 2003 he was appointed Chancellor of the University of the West Indies. He currently holds an Adjunct professorship on the Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins University. Dr Alleyne has received numerous awards in recognition of his work, including prestigious decorations and national honours from many countries of the Americas. In 1990, he was made Knight Bachelor by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for his services to Medicine. In 2001, he was awarded the Order of the Caribbean Community, the highest honour that can be conferred on a Caribbean national.

DR. VICTOR COOMBS Dr. Coombs is a Medical Practitioner of thirty-three years standing and Consultant in Occupational and Environmental Health. Dr. Coombs has twenty-nine years full time experience working in Industry, twenty-one years as a Health Services Manager, as the Chief Medical Officer of Petrotrin. He holds a BA from the University of Massachusetts, MBBS University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica, MSc. CHDC from the University of London (Distinction), DPH from the Royal Institute of Public Health United Kingdom. He is a part time Senior Lecturer in Emergency Medicine at UWI, Trinidad. Advisory and Consultancy Services have been provided to several Local, Regional and International Organizations in OSHE, Health Services Management, Public Health, Disaster Preparedness, Emergency Health Services and Health Promotion and Wellness in the Workplace, PAHO, ILO, CEHI, WSO, NGC, GOTT, BPTT, Powergen, PCS Nitrogen to name a few. He has a keen interest in Clinical Preventive Medicine. He has been a Director with the Employers Consultative Association and the North West Regional Authority. He is an Occupational and Community Physician and a Current Director of HCC.

MS. DEBBIE CHEN Deborah Chen is the Executive Director of The Heart Foundation of Jamaica with over 20 years experience in cardiovascular care and extensive experience in the field of tobacco control. She is a visionary and has been the driving force behind the continued growth and success of The Heart Foundation of Jamaica (HFJ). A State Registered Nurse by profession, she also holds a Master of Public Health Degree from the University of the West Indies. Mrs. Chen is also a Founding Member of and has oversight responsibility for the Jamaica Coalition for Tobacco Control which successfully lobbied for the passage of The Public Health (Tobacco Control) Regulations-2013 which became effective on July 15th, 2013. This regulation speaks

to the banning of smoking in public places and workplaces and makes provision for the introduction of graphic health warnings on cigarette packs. Mrs. Chen is the Immediate Past Vice President of the World Heart Federation, Immediate Past President of the InterAmerican Heart Foundation (IAHF) and Past Chair of the IAHF’s Emergency Cardiac Care Committee. Mrs. Chen is an active member of the Healthy Caribbean Coalition and was a member of the Board of Directors, 2012-2014.

DR. KENNETH GEORGE Dr. Kenneth George is Senior Medical Officer Non Communicable Disease, Barbados. He graduated in 1991 MB BS and went on to do Internal Medicine (DM) in 1998 and Masters in Public Health (MPH) in 2011 from Cave Hill, UWI. Dr. George joined the Ministry of Health in 2006 and has been working there since as officer responsible for NCD and more recently elderly care. Dr. George has acted as Chief Medical Officer on several occasions. He is a member of the LIONS Club Bridgetown, Barbados.

SIR TREVOR HASSELL Sir Trevor Hassell is a former Adjunct Professor of Medicine, the University of the West Indies, and Consultant Physician and Cardiologist, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Barbados. He is a graduate of the University College of the West Indies, Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London, England. He has held the positions of President of the Caribbean Cardiac Society, President of the Inter American Heart Foundation, and Vice President of the World Heart Federation. Dr. Hassell is presently Chairman of the Barbados National Chronic Non Communicable Diseases Commission and Barbados Special Envoy for Chronic Diseases. In 2013 Dr. Hassell was appointed to the Order of Barbados as a Knight of St. Andrew in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the medical profession.

DR. JAMES HOSPEDALES Dr. C. James Hospedales is the Executive Director of the Caribbean Public Health Agency since February 2013. Dr. Hospedales is a medical graduate of the University of the West Indies. From 2006-2012, Dr. Hospedales was responsible for the PAHO program for prevention and control of chronic noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). He played a key role in increasing priority and resources for NCDs, including helping organize the CARICOM and UN Summits on NCDs. He pioneered the Pan American Forum for Action on NCDs, which brings together governments, civil society, academia & business. He has also been a champion for civil society involvement in efforts to improve health, and helped catalyze the formation of the Healthy Caribbean Coalition. He is a strong supporter of the Healthy Caribbean Coalition

and is Special Advisor to the Coalition.

MRS. MAISHA HUTTON Maisha Hutton is the Executive Director of the Healthy Caribbean Coalition and has been with the HCC since 2012. Maisha holds a BSc in Microbiology and an MSC in Molecular Biology and a PGDip in International Health. Maisha has been working in public health in the Caribbean region for the past 15 years.

MS. AMANDA MCMILLAN Mrs. Amanda McMillan joined the Massy Group in 2006 as Group Manager, Employee Benefits with territory oversight. Her main responsibility is the administration and management of all benefits for active and retired employees throughout the Group. Amanda specializes in case management and has participated and lectured in several insurance and wellness workshops comprising Claims Adjudication, Pricing, Medical Underwriting, Insurance Fraud, How To Engage A Provider, Contract Interpretation and Plan Administrator Training. Her most recent involvement was at the Trinidad Chamber of Commerce where she attended a wellness workshop entitled “Wellness in the Workplace”, in April 2015. Arising from this forum, Amanda was highlighted in the media regarding her candid view towards the role of the Medical Insurance Companies partnering with employers in a more proactive approach. Amanda is also very fond of her Group wide initiative which commenced in 2012 and was named Reconnect with Us which was a forum held for all the Massy Retirees. To date this continues to be a successful initiative.

MR. STEPHEN ROBINSON Stephen Robinson brings 20 years of financial services experience to his role as Vice President, Pensions, Sagicor Life Inc. Prior to his current position, he held the position of Vice President, Employee Benefits. Mr. Robinson holds a Bachelor of Mathematics in Actuarial Science from the University of Waterloo in Canada. Stephen is an avid cyclist, usually eats healthy and enjoys a good game of tennis. Stephen and his wife Allison have three children.

MR. CHRISTOPHER SYMMONDS Christopher is a senior manager within the Goddard Enterprises Group of companies (GEL Group). He holds a BSc. in Management from UWI; Cave Hill, an MBA from the University of Lincoln and has just concluded the GEL Group two-year High Achievers Programme. He is currently employed by Purity Bakeries in the capacity of Sales & Distribution Manager, with strategic responsibility for Product Development & Marketing. He lectures the course; Product Planning & Distribution in the Masters (Msc. Marketing) programme at the UWI Cave Hill Campus and has a passion for developing a unified effort to reduce the personal, corporate and macro-economic impact of non-communicable diseases within the region.

MRS. LAURA TUCKER-LONGSWORTH Laura Tucker-Longsworth is a registered nurse who received her basic nursing and midwifery education from the Bliss School of Nursing in Belize City. She holds a Certificate in Nursing Education from the University of the West Indies School of Nursing. In 2003, she earned a Master’s of Science degree in Nursing from the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing, Loyola University Chicago in Health Systems Management with a focus on outcomes performance. She is a founding member and President of the Belize Cancer Society (BCS) and represents the BCS on the Non-Communicable Disease Commission. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Healthy Caribbean Coalition (HCC)-a regional organization that works to increase the level of attention to non-communicable diseases. She represented the HCC at the World Cancer Congress (Dec. 2014) which was held in Melbourne Australia. In August 2014, Prime Minister Dean Barrow appointed her to the position of Chairperson of the National Aids Commission. In 2003, she was the recipient of an award for Professionalism and Service from Loyola University Chicago. In March 2013, she received an Outstanding Woman Award from the University of the West Indies Open Campus in Belize for her commitment to the development of women and community in the area of health care and cancer awareness. In January 2015, she was honored with the OBE Award for contribution to Nursing and Community Service.

DR. LYNDA WILLIAMS Dr. Lynda Williams studied Medicine at the University of the West Indies (UWI) and holds a Masters in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Dr. Williams was Clinical Director of the Barbados National Cancer Study from 2004-2007 and more recently, Co-Principal Investigator of the Cancer Survival Study, both collaborative studies of the Chronic Disease Research Centre, UWI and StonyBrook University (USA). She assisted with the establishment and training of staff at the Barbados National Registry for Chronic Non-Communicable Diseases (BNR) and undertook many other research interests in chronic diseases with the CDRC. Dr. Williams was part-time lecturer at UWI in the Masters of Public Health and is currently helping to develop new training programs in Public Health. She currently sits on the (Barbados) National Diabetes Task Force and has been an active member of the Healthy Caribbean Coalition since 2009.
