Chapter One:

Strange Meetings

I sat dreaming once about this man that stood before me. The dream

was so clear to me once it began. This man was so beautiful. He was so

exquisite, almost intriguing. He had beautiful forest green eyes that seemed to

be holding a secret, kind of mysterious. He had silky blonde, kind of long, hair.

He had a thick muscular build to him, showing every outline of every muscle

through his shirt. He had a pale skin tone that seemed to shine. He seemed so

deep into thought when he caught me staring at him. I quickly looked away.

Did I dare to look again at the most beautiful thing I had ever seen? I did and

he caught me and once again I looked away very quickly. After that I didnt

dare another glance. I t took me a moment as he was walking up to me to

realize this was not a dream. I t was reality. This gorgeous man was really

walking up to me as I sat in the corner of the coffee shop.

Hello, he said when he finally reached the table I seated myself so

firmly at. He then held his hand out for me to shake it. This man that I

thought I had been dreaming about was standing right in front of me. What

was I suppose to do? What was I suppose to say? Hello, I said shortly to

him and shook the hand that he held out in front of me. We sat there in

silence for what seemed to be eternity. He probably thought there was

something wrong with me from the way I just sat there and stared up at him

quietly. My name is Christopher Henson, He finally said to me. He had a

voice that sounded like it came from heaven. What was my name? I couldnt

remember it. I couldnt think straight with him here. All I could think about

was that amazing face. My names Charlie Franks, I finally remembered

my name. How to talk was also something I was having a hard time trying to

remember. He started staring at me as I sat there wondering what he was

thinking. Then he said the unthinkable, have you ever noticed how pretty

your eyes are? Was he really being a typical male? He was, despite the

beauty that he had that set him apart from the rest, he was just like every

other one out there. I tried to think of a nice way to let him down so he would

quit trying, but for some reason I didnt want him to go. I wanted him to stay

right here with me. What was it about this man? I have a boyfriend and he is

good looking, nothing compared to this Christopher, but still good looking so

it wouldnt be that. Maybe it was the mystery about him that intrigued me.

Maybe it was the way his eyes just drew me into him, or the way he ran his

fingers threw his hair. Maybe even just the way he stood there like he wanted

to know everything about me.

So I sat there contemplating my next move when, out of nowhere, a very

beautiful girl walked up. She had the same forest green eyes, same muscular

build, but instead of blonde she had dark brown, almost black hair. She

looked at me and then looked at him and back at me. She held her hand out

for me to shake it as she said, Hi, my name is Melanie Henson. Of course he

wouldnt be single, but they both looked to young and too much alike to be

married. Maybe they were siblings. As all of these thoughts were going

through my head I replied, My name is Charlie. I was always one to be

polite, even when I really didnt feel like being so. Just then she turned to him

quickly and said, I ts time to go or we will be late. They both at the same

time told me it was nice to meet me and turned and walked away.

Later, I was sitting at home thinking about earlier in the coffee shop. I t

was so weird how he had come up to me, how he looked so weird, like a man

you would only dream about. How weird it was that I thought I was in a

dream. Why had he come up to me? Out of all the beautiful girls in the whole

place he came up to me? What would make him want to come up to me and

speak to me? She was much prettier then I was. She was so much more his

type then me. But all of this thinking and wondering would have to wait. I

had school the next day and had to get some sleep.

That night I really did dream of him. I was walking down the beach and

I seen something glistening from the distance. I walked towards it but it didnt

seem like I was getting any closer. I started to walk faster and faster with each

passing second. I could see the figure now as I was running forward. I t was

him. He was standing near the water smiling and waving at me as I picked up

my pace. I finally reached him. He said, hello again. Hello, I replied.

Where have you been? I ve been waiting here for you, he said almost in a

whisper. His voice was singing like an angel above. I couldnt seem to find

any words to say. All I could do was watch him as he came to stand next to

me. My heart started beating faster and faster with every step that he took

near me. Then out of nowhere came Melanie, and just like in the coffee shop

she stole him away from me. When I woke up, I looked at the clock, only 3:00

am. I lay there awake thinking about the dream I had. Thinking I couldnt

even get lucky in my dreams.

The next day at school droned on and on as always. Class after class,

there was endless talking in every single one. This was my senior year and it

was half way over. Next year I would be off to college with high school as a

distant memory. My last class I had with my boyfriend and he always sat next

to me. He was an amazing boyfriend. He was always there for me when he

needed to be. He loved me. He walked me to my car after school like he always

did. Told me he would see me tomorrow and gave me a kiss. With my routine I

went to the coffee shop after school. I had done this every day after school

since freshman year. Today I was kind of nervous wondering if he would be

there again. This angel sent from above with the name Christopher. I sat there

reading a book I had gotten from the library previously that day. As I sat

there in my usual seat in the corner I watched as people walked in and out for

hours. But still there was no sign of him. I felt a twinge of disappointment as I

stood up to leave and head home when all of a sudden Melanie walked in and

sat down at my table. Hey girly how have you been today? she said to me.

Wow, she acted like she had been my friend for years. I ve been ok, I replied

kind of confused. So, my brother has a thing for you, she said to me out of

nowhere. I had to sit down from the instant shock. I t was her brother. I

proceeded to tell her about me having a boyfriend and I could see the sadness

appear on her face. So I havent seen you around here before, I said in a

questioning tone. I lived in the small town of Grayville, I L where everybody

knows everybody and I did not know them. Me and my family just moved

here, she replied. She had the same voice as her brother. I t always sounded as

if she were an angel singing. My father just got a teaching job here, she

continued, and my mother has been working at the hospital in Mount

Carmel part time. So that explained the new teacher we had at the school. He

hadnt started yet, but like in any small town the talk was big. We start

school tomorrow, she said. I would say I would show you around town but

I m sure you seen it all when you got here, its not that big, I said joking as I

laughed. I ve noticed there wasnt much around here. What do you guys do

for fun? she asked. Well there isnt really much of anything to do around

here. We have to go out of town to do anything. I replied, being quite honest

with her. The only thing to do in this town is a Friday night football game,

which was about it. We should go out and do something this weekend, she

suggested, getting excited like she knew I was going to say yes. I agreed. I t was

getting late so we decided to leave the coffee shop. She said she would see me

tomorrow and we parted ways.

The next day at school as predicted Melanie came to find me first thing.

She was excited because it was Friday and we had decided to go out tonight.

When she came up to me she had 4 other people with her, one of course was

Christopher. The other 3 I had never seen before. One was a tall very

beautiful girl, with the same green eyes as Christopher and Melanie. I noticed

they all had those same green eyes, still beautiful and mysterious on every

single one of them. She had beautiful long flowing golden blonde hair. She

had the same muscular build but not as thick. She seemed to be the most

feminine out of the 2 girls. She walked up with grace like a model. Her name

was Amelia. The next one I noticed was a guy named Keith. He was the

biggest of them all. He stood the tallest towering over them. He looked like a

giant on steroids. He had light brown hair that didnt seem well kept, like it

hadnt been cut in a while. His smiled seemed like it could light up the dead of

night. The last male that was with them seemed shy, His name was Ryan. He

looked like he came straight out of a magazine. He had dark brown hair with

what looked like blonde highlights throughout it. And he stood there with

much poise. But I dont think he said a word the entire time we were talking.

They all had a muscular build to them, with the pale skin that stood out. I t

seemed to jump out at you when they walked up.

All through the day I noticed I had at least one or more of each of the

Henson kids in my classes. When I reached my last class, English, I noticed

the only one of them in there was Christopher. He wouldnt even look at me.

Obviously Melanie had told him about my boyfriend, Brian, who happened to

be sitting next to me. As the teacher talked about the lesson for the day I had

to sneak a peek at Christopher. He seemed so unhappy about the fact I had a

boyfriend, like he wanted to rip Brian to pieces. He tried not to show it but I

could tell. After class he was the first one up and out of the room. As Brian

and I were saying our goodbyes Melanie walked up and almost scared me to

death. She was always sneaky. She made no noise and always seemed to come

from thin air. Hello, she said cheerfully when I turned around to look at

who was there. Hello, whats up, I replied. I could tell it irritated Brian, but

he would wait till later on the phone to say anything about it. Wanted to talk

about tonight, she replied. I m ready to get out and do something. she

smiled brightly at me. Brian and I said goodbye and he kissed me on the

Why wont he come near me? I asked Melanie towards the end of the

night. She smiled and said, He likes you but doesnt want to interfere in the

relationship you are in. So he feels it best not to even be around you. She had

a form of sadness in her voice that she tried to hide but didnt do a very good

job at it. I dropped the conversation after that. We finished bowling and said

our goodbyes. Melanie wanted to stay with me and have a slumber party as

she had put it. So she rode home with me. We stayed up talking all night about

where she used to live, about her old school, and about her family. So why

would your dad leave his job there to move you guys here? I asked. I was

curious. I t was strange to leave his job there to move here. He got paid less

and this town pretty much sucked. He wanted a more personal experience

teaching his students, where we used to live the school was so big he didnt

have that with his students. He didnt even remember who half of them were

because he had so many students, she explained to me. I t made sense. Here

there werent many people in our school he would know every single one of

them before too long, whether they were in his classes or not. Finally I started

to get tired. So we decided to go to bed. When I woke the next day Melanie

was already up. We went downstairs, the house was empty. I cooked

breakfast. I was starving. What would you like? I asked her. Oh I m not

hungry. Not really much of a breakfast person, she replied. I probably need

to be heading home soon. So we said our goodbyes and off she went.

I sat around the house for a while trying to figure out something to do.

There wasnt anything on T.V. so that was out of the question. I cleaned a little

bit but there wasnt too much to get done. So I started on my homework that

was due Monday. While I was doing my English, I couldnt stay focused. All I

could think about was Christopher. There was something about him that I still

couldnt figure out, something that drew me towards him. I tried knocking

him out of my thoughts to finish my homework. I didnt do much of anything

else that day.

That night I dreamt of him and of Brian too. We were all three standing

there and they started to fight each other. They were fighting over me. Stop

it, I yelled, Just stop. But they acted as if they couldnt hear me. I kept

screaming at them, and they just ignored me. Melanie showed up and stood

next to me and smile. I t will all be ok, she assured me. Boys will be boys,

she laughed. Why would they be fighting over me? Did Christopher really like

me this much? I just wished they would stop. When I turned away from

Melanie I noticed they had stopped. Brian was lying on the ground as

Christopher stood above him smiling. I ran over and knelt down next to

Brian. Are you ok? I asked panicked. I got no response. He wasnt moving

or breathing. What had happened? Now youre free to come with me,

Christopher said. He smiled widely and held out his hand.

I jerked awake in the middle of the night. I couldnt sleep after that. I t

had me all shook up. I knew it was just a dream. But did it mean that I

wanted to be with Christopher. What was it trying to tell me? I lay there

awake until it was time for church. I got up and got ready like I usually did.

This morning church was unusually boring. Brian sat next to me as always,

but he didnt pay too much attention. He kept looking at me like there was

something wrong. I knew I didnt hide my thoughts very well. I couldnt shake

the dream I had last night. There was something bugging me about it. After

church we went to Brians house for lunch. His mother always made an

amazing lunch on Sundays. We sat there and talked to his parents for a while

and I headed home. Sunday nights I spent with my dad, like father/daughter

bonding time. We watched movies all night. So how do you like the Hensons

so far? he asked out of nowhere. He acted as if we were all best friends.

They seem really nice, I said to him. Melanie is really sweet. they were all

really nice I just couldnt help thinking there was something very different

about them. But I ended the conversation and headed to bed.

I didnt dream that night, and I was grateful. I needed a full nights rest

since I had school the next day. I got to school and none of the Hensons was

there. I t was kind of a relief too, some peace and quiet. I went on with my

normal routines as I did every day with every class then to the coffee shop. I

didnt see any of the Hensons for over a week. They seemed to disappear into

thin air. But it was nice. Brian seemed happy too that Christopher hadnt been

around. He did not like him much at all.

Sweetie, are you ok? he asked one day. I had been thinking about

Christopher a lot lately. Brian could tell I was thinking of something a lot and

he had been getting worried. I m fine. Just thinking about mid-terms, I lied

but I wasnt about to tell him what I was really thinking about. That would

just cause a fight.

I went to the coffee shop after school. As I sat there and read my book

someone walked up. When I looked up I saw Christopher standing there.

Wow, I thought you fell off the face of the earth, I said to him. I was

Astonished that he was there. I went with my family to visit an old friend,

he said casually like he really hadnt left. Then I started to wonder why he was

even talking to me. I thought he hated me for being with Brian. But I didnt

say anything because I didnt want him to get mad and leave. I never wanted

him to leave. So I have a question, he said to me. Shoot, I told him. Why

are you with Brian? he asked. Wow. Why was he asking me this? Weve

been together for a while, and I love him, I responded after a long pause. He

looked at me, questioning what I had said. I was questioning it too. How could

I question it after so long? How could one guy come into my life and make me

question my relationship? He interrupted my thoughts when he said, I m

sorry I dont mean to pry. He seemed so sincere when he said this. I ts ok, I

replied, I ts no big deal. He smiled at me, that breathtaking smile that could

drop me to my knees. We sat and talked for hours, just about everything. He

kept asking me questions, like he was trying to know everything about me. He

seemed interested even with the little things. How could I be so interesting to

him?

We talked so long we lost track of time and the coffee shop was closing.

When we reached my car I turned and looked at him as he said, Will you go

out to dinner with me Saturday night? I was caught so off guard. I didnt

know what to say, so I stood there for a minute thinking about it. Should I say

yes? I know I wanted to say yes. But should I ? But I have a boyfriend.

Wouldnt that be like cheating? I was so confused. Finally I said, Yes! I

didnt know if I was doing the right thing, but for once I was doing what I

wanted to do. I got a sudden wave of excitement through my body. I wish it

was Saturday already but it was only Thursday. And what was I going to do

about Brian? I would go down that road when it came time. Right now I had

the urge to kiss Christopher. Would he kiss me back? What the heck, so I went

for it. I leaned in slowly towards him, and closed my eyes. I moved closer to

him, and then it happened. Our lips met. I felt like I was flying. I t felt like

eternity but in reality it was over quicker then it began. He pulled away and

said goodnight and walked to his car and drove away. I stood there and

watched him leave. I was stunned. What had I just done? I guess it was time

to end things with Brian.

When I got to school I tried to avoid Brian as much as possible. I didnt

know how to tell him. I didnt know what to say. I didnt want to hurt him,

but it had to be done. He came up to me right before lunch. I couldnt avoid

him any longer. Hey, I said as he walked up to me. He looked mad. What

the hell is wrong with you today? You wont talk to me, youve been avoiding

me. You wont come near me even. What is going on? he went on and on.

Now was the time. I t had to be done. Brian, I think you should sit down. I

said. I felt really bad for what I was about to do. Why, whats going on? he

asked again. I could feel the tears coming in. I tried my hardest to hold them

back and succeeded. I think we should break up and go our separate ways, I

quickly got out what I had to say. He looked at me stunned, hurt, and all sorts

of other emotions I couldnt explain. What? was all he could get out? I m

sorry, I said and I walked away. I couldnt handle seeing him this way. I t

hurt me more then it hurt him. He followed me as I walked away. What is

wrong, what did I do to make you do this? How can I fix this? he asked

chasing after me. I stopped and turned and looked at him. You didnt do

anything. I ts me. I ve changed and I feel we have grown apart, I tried to

make it easier for him to leave but I didnt want to tell him about Christopher

because that would just make everything more complicated for all three of us.

He hit the locker he was standing next to and walked away. I t could have been

worse, that could have been my face.

I was in English class and noticed Brian didnt even show up.

Christopher walked in and sat right next to me in the seat that had always

been Brians. Are you ok? he asked when he got situated. I m fine just a

long bad day, I replied. I felt at ease as soon as he sat down. He made me feel

like everything was alright. I heard about you and Brian, he said, I m

sorry. he gave me a hug. Then the teacher started his lecture for the day, but

all I could think about was Christopher, this angel that had sat next to me,

sent from heaven above. After class was over I was walking to my car when I

heard Brian, so you seeing that new kid now? Of course people would say

something about him sitting next to me in English. Here was the fun little fight

I knew would eventually come. He sits down next to me in English and asks

me if I m ok and suddenly I m seeing him now? I was going to beat around

the bush as much as possible. No, he said. I think I stumped him. Until he

said, someone saw you kissing him the other night outside the coffee shop.

Thats when I knew I was caught. I didnt know what to say. I looked down at

me feet and I couldnt stop the tears anymore. I m sorry. I didnt plan it, it

just happened. with that he walked away from me, probably for good. I

decided to skip the coffee shop today. I had to go grocery shopping today and

I didnt feel like sitting there reading and being alone.

When I reached my house after shopping I noticed a now familiar car

sitting out front. What was he doing here? Hey, Christopher said stepping

out of his car. I seen what happened after school, I just want to make sure

your ok, and still up for Saturday. he was very sweet and very caring. I m

fine, really. I t was bound to end sooner or later. At least with it happening now

it was easier then it would have been later down the road. I replied, looking

deeply into his eyes. I couldnt help but get lost in them. And I am looking

forward to Saturday very much. I smiled back at him. I went to the coffee

shop hoping you would be there, when I seen you werent I came here and

seen you werent here. I figured eventually you would have to come home so I

decided to wait. I hope you dont mind. he said. Of course I dont mind. I

wouldnt mind if he was with me all the time. But I wasnt going to say that to

him. I ts fine. I ts no problem. I t gives me some company before my dad gets

off of work. I laughed and invited him inside with me.

I was putting away my groceries when he came up behind me, put his

arms around my waist and kissed the top of my head. I turned around to face

him, not disturbing the spot where his hands lay. He kissed me firmly on my

lips. My heart started beating faster and faster. I t felt like it was about to beat

out of my chest. Just then he stopped and backed away from me. Are you

ok? I asked him. He just looked at me and said, I think we need to move

slower. So I think its time for me to leave. I m sorry, you dont have to go.

I didnt want him to leave. I wanted him to stay here with me, even if he

didnt say or do anything. His presence was enough. No I think I need to go. I

will see you tomorrow for dinner. I ll pick you up around 7. Dont worry I m

not leaving for good. and with that he said goodbye and left in a hurry. I

didnt know how I was going to keep up with him and his moods. I t was

strange how I felt so calm around him all the time and he always seemed to be

on edge and uptight. But I would just have to get used to it, its the way it was

starting to seem.

I finished putting everything away and got dinner done, so I started on

my homework so I wouldnt have to worry about it the next day. I n the middle

of my English, I fell asleep and had beautiful dreams of Christopher all night

long. Finally I felt at peace with myself. I was happy.

Chapter Two:

The Storm

I t was finally Saturday and Melanie and Amelia had come over to help

me get ready for my date. I liked to get dressed up and do my makeup and all

that good stuff. But they were trying to go over the top. I t seemed like they

always tried to do that though. I t was nice having some girl time. I didnt have

many girl friends so I didnt get this very often. Youre going to look so

beautiful, Amelia said, smiling as she did my hair. She seemed more excited

about this then me. Do you think he will like it? I asked. I had always been a

little insecure.

As they finished getting me ready everything started to sink in. I was

about to go out with the most incredible man alive. A man who makes me feels

the ways I ve never felt before.

Your all ready, Melanie said when she stood back to look at her work.

Amelia had already been done with my hair. I m starting to get nervous, I

said. My nerves were on edge now. I would be with him in less than ten

minutes. I t will be fine, just be yourself and I promise youll have a great

night, Amelia chimed in happily. They were both so happy I had accepted the

invitation to have dinner with their brother. We sat here, waiting, when we all

three herd the knock at the door. He was here. Melanie raced to answer the

door. She looks amazing, I heard her say to him as he came inside. Amelia

basically dragged me down the stairs because I couldnt get my feet to work. I

was so nervous. I m going to make a fool of myself, I whispered to her on

our way. Youll be fine, she said as we reached them. He looked his usual

miraculous self. I was nothing compared to him. As we stood there in silence,

all eyes were on me. Attention didnt bother me so much, but they acted as if I

looked like them, and they like me, but I know I could never compare to them.

Are you ready? he extended his hand out for me to take. I did, as I nodded

my head. I was speechless around him.

We got to the restaurant, and as if all at once, everybody looked at us.

The hostess took us to our seats, never taking her eyes off of him. I dont think

I was supposed to be jealous since this was only our first date, but I wanted to

hit her for checking him out. He smiled and took my hand and pulled me

closer to him. He put his lips against mine and kissed me passionately in the

middle of the crowded room. I was in shock as we took our seats. I could see

the hurt look on her face as she walked off. Wow, I said. I t seemed to be the

only word in my vocabulary at the time.

I want everyone here to know that I am with the most beautiful woman

in the world tonight. he smiled and took my hand. The waitress came to our

table to take our order. I could tell she was trying not to let us see her stare at

him. But it was obvious. Was this going to be the reaction of women

everywhere we went together? Probably since he was so gorgeous, it was hard

not to stare. I think men even started with envy.

When we finally got our dinner, I noticed that he hardly ate anything.

Actually I wasnt sure if he did. Hows your food? I asked, a little worried,

oh its very good, he said, followed by a big bite and a disgusted look on his

face. I could tell he didnt want to be here. We can leave if you would like, I

suggested being polite. We can stay, its ok, he said with a smile, his

breathtaking, soul stealing smile. No lets leave, I didnt want him to be

unhappy. With that we both got up and as were heading out the door, I could

feel all eyes on us. But I never turned away from him.

We drove around aimlessly for hours. Talking about everything that we

could think of and listening to all sorts of music. We were enjoying spending

time with each other. When it came time to take me home he was a gentleman.

He walked me to the door and told me goodnight. He didnt even try to kiss

me again. So I brought it onto myself to kiss him. I stepped closer to him and

leaned in, but he stopped me. He looked at me deeply into my eyes. Why had

he stopped me? Did he not want me anymore? I had all these questions

running through my head when he grabbed me gently around my waist and

pulled me against him and kissed me like he had in the restaurant.

Then out of nowhere the porch light popped on. I t was my dad.

Christopher smiled at me and told me goodnight with a kiss on my hand.

Then he was gone. When I got inside my dad was waiting for me. You seem

to have gotten over Brian pretty quickly, he said. I just nodded my head and

ran up to my room. I was sure to have wonderful dreams tonight. I couldnt

wait.

The next day drug on, I stayed home from church. I really didnt feel

like seeing Brian and his family today. I had to good of a night to have it

ruined the next day.

My phone rang and I answered, it was Brian. Where on earth were

you this morning? he asked. He sounded pissed. Why did he care? I dont

feel good, so I stayed home, I lied. I heard him sigh; I knew he could tell

when I was lying. Look you dont have to avoid me just because of what

happened. I was hoping you would be there I really want to talk to you about

everything that is if you dont mind. I t couldnt hurt to talk about things. So

I invited him over.

I changed out of my pajamas and into some jean and a T-shirt, and went

downstairs when I heard the knock on the door and I knew it was Brian. I

opened the door and to my surprise it was Melanie standing on the other side.

I had to get rid of her because Brian would be coming shortly and her being

here would cause a fight, and I knew it.

What are you doing here? I asked. She just stood there smiling at me.

She was something else sometimes. Since she didnt look like she would be

leaving anytime soon I invited her in. I just have a surprise for you, she

finally said. I had learned from Keith that her surprises were always over the

top and he told me I should be scared. Oh boy, should I be scared, I

laughed.

You should always be scared, she smiled. She took my hand and led

me outside, but I held back. I couldnt leave when Brian was coming over.

Can we do this later? I asked. She looked back at me shocked. Well of

course not, so cancel whatever plans you have because we have to hurry, she

smiled and walked to the car alone.

I hurried to find my phone so I could call Brian when I heard another

knock on the door. Was Melanie that impatient? I went to the door and

opened it, I m almost ready, I said as I looked up to see Brian standing

there. What to do now. I invited him in and leaned out the door to give

Melanie a, hold on a second, look. She just sat there smiling at me and

nodded her head.

So are you seeing the new kid now or not? he asked the second the

one to beat around the bush. Well I wouldnt put it that way, I said, we are

friends, and weve hung out some. He looked suspicious of my answer. The

why is she out there then? Well, she is my friend; why else would she be out

there? I ts not like he is in the car waiting too, its just her. I was starting to

get annoyed and I wanted him to leave, and not because I wanted to go with

Melanie, but because I was afraid of what Brian might do.

I started to walk towards the door but he blocked my path. Where do

you think youre going? I started for the back door, this is what I feared

might happen. He ran after me and grabbed my arms from behind and he

dragged me back into the living room.

Why are you doing this? I half screamed. I could feel the tears

coming on. I feared for myself. I m going to teach you a lesson you little

slut, he said. I felt a hand hit hard against the side of my face. This was it,

the same thing that always happened when he got mad. He would beat me for

a while and then leave and act like it never happened. I was so used to it by

now that I knew I would just sit there and take it like I had for so long. I

heard a knock at the door and panicked. This would make him even madder.

Just a minute, we are almost done. Brian yelled at the door, but

whoever was there seemed to not be leaving, they knocked again. I said just

a minute, he boomed, and with that he hit me again. I heard the door open

and Brian froze. I f anyone finds out about this, I swear it will be ten times

worse next time. He walked out leaving me laying there in the floor in a heap.

I could feel blood running down my face.

I looked up to see Christopher standing there with a look to kill on his

face. Are you alright? he asked as he ran over to pick me up. What are

you doing here? I asked I was grateful that he was here. Melanie said that

he had showed up here. She called me after twenty minutes of waiting for you

outside. She was so worried about you. I t looks to me that she had reason to

be worried, what on earth happened here? I couldnt tell him the truth,

because he would go after Brian and after that Brian would come after me.

I fell, I lied, apparently quite badly, for the next thing he said was, he

hit you didnt he? Dont lie to me again; let me know the truth so I can take

care of it, if needed. I didnt know what to do, I just sat there looking at the

ground and I knew he knew the truth.

He sat me down gently on the sofa and ran out the door. I knew where

he was going but was too weak to try to stop him. Melanie came in a sat next

to me and immediately started wiping the blood from my face, not saying a

word. She hummed quietly as we sat there.

No one spoke out a single word; she laid my head on her lap and played

with my hair, and I fell asleep. I awoke sometime later lying in my bed. I

looked at my clock, it said four in the morning. How had I got into bed? Last

thing I remembered was Melanie humming and playing with my hair. I sat up

and bed and realized I was still in my clothes. My shirt had drops of blood

stained on it from the events earlier. I quickly changed into my pajamas and

went downstairs to find something to eat. My stomach was gurgling since I

had completely missed supper.

I thought the house was empty because my dad was on a business trip,

but it felt as if someone else was in the house with me. Maybe Melanie was

still here to keep an eye on me. I went into the kitchen and turned on the light

and there he stood. He was grinning at me, staring me down. I ve been

waiting for you to wake up, Brian said as he stepped towards me. Your new

boyfriend came after me, youre lucky he didnt try to fight me, or this would

be worse on you then its going to be already. I was frightened. Why was

this the weekend my dad was gone. I swear I didnt tell him. I told him I fell

and he just assumed I was lying. I tried to plea. I hoped it would work.

He started walking closer to me and I ran. I ran out the front door and

to my car, I always left my keys in my car and I was thankful for that now. I

started the car and pulled out of the driveway. I drove down the road not

knowing where I was going. I couldnt go to Christophers because I wasnt

sure where he lived. I couldnt go to the police station because they wouldnt

believe that their honest, church going hometown Brian would do such a thing

to me. So I just drove, I drove until the sun came up.

When I finally went home I seen Brians car was gone so I knew it

would be safe to go in. I was still starving since my midnight snack got

interrupted before it could start, so I went straight into the kitchen and on the

counter sat a note. I t read:

My dearest Charlie,

I came to check on you this morning and didnt find you here

So I decided to leave this note.

Im hoping that nothing bad has happened to you.

Please give me a call whenever you get this

For, I will be waiting by my phone all day to hear from you. Always,

Christopher

He was worried about me? I decided to eat and shower before I called him.

When I had finally gotten dressed after my shower I called him to let him

know I was ok.

I t rang and rang, but he didnt answer. Then I realized that he was

probably getting ready for school, it was a Monday. I needed to start getting

ready myself.

I changed into some clothes and ate breakfast. I was washing my dishes

when there came a knock at the door and I panicked a little bit. I went to the

door, who is it? I asked through the door. Well who on earth would you

think it would be silly, the melodic voice of Melanie came from the other side.

I sighed in relief and opened the door.

She stood right outside with Amelia at her heels. We decided you

needed a ditch day from school, Melanie smiled. Considering last night, I

think I need it, I smiled. I finished getting ready and we headed out to

Amelias car. She had a candy apple read mustang convertible. I climbed in

back behind Melanie.

So where are we going anyways? I asked as we got on the interstate

towards St. Louis. I had an idea of where we were going and what we were

doing, but I can never be sure with Melanie. SHOPP I NG! both Melanie

and Amelia both screamed, with a little giggle in with it.

I knew with Melanie it was usually all about shopping or a party. I

heard all about her adventures from Keith. I wasnt totally opposed to going

shopping, but it just didnt seem like a great idea to get my mind off of things.

Maybe it would be fun, Melanie always had a way to make things right.

We made it to St. Louis and Melanie decided we had to hit up all of the

good stores before we ate.
