I have chosen romantic comedy as my chosen genre because this is my favourite genre of films. The reason I like this genre of films is because they are aimed at my gender and age. The thing that attracts me to these kinds of films is because I like the “fairy tale ending” that they all have. I like the cheesiness and how unrealistically in love they make people out to be. But because they are comedies the storylines aren't straightforward and boring. People might say they are all the same but I think the comedy element is what keeps them different. Although they are over the top they are still realistic. Whereas an action or Sci Fi film I sit watching thinking “this is would never happen”. I like Rom Coms because they are easy to watch and you don’t have to think about it too much. One more thing I like about Rom Coms is that they usually use actors/actresses that I like e.g.. Mila Kunis and Zac Efron
Intertextuality Intertextuality is when a film uses a factor of another film. Whether this is a quote, character, setting or scene. Just something that has happened in another media text.
For example in the film ‘That Awkward Moment’ a man is eating ice cream because he is heartbroken and his friends make fun of him and call him Bridget Jones. This is because in the Bridget Jones films she’s known for crying over a tub of ice-cream about her break up.
Star Theory Star theory is based on the fact that the audience would go to watch a film because of the cast. I would go and watch a film if an actor/actress I liked was in that film. If I had enjoyed films this person has been in before I presume that this new film will be just as good. Even if that’s not always the case. For example I watched That Awkward Moment just because Zac Efron was in it. Wolf Of Wall Street because of Leonardo Dicaprio and Ted because of Mila Kunis.
