    1.0 GENERAL

    This calculation is prepared to determine the capacity of Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG)

    for safe shut down operation and provide power for essential supplies of Mong Duong 1 TPP

    in Vietnam.

    3.0 DESIGN CRITERIA & FORMULA

    3.1 General

    To calculate the capacity of EDG, the following cases are considered:

    Case I : Capacity during shut down of STGs Case II : Capacity for starting the largest motor while in islanded operation

    4.0 CALCULATION OF EDG SIZING

    4.1 Calculation for Case I

    The capacity required for continuous operation during shutdown of STG Unit is calculated by

    the following formula;

    PG1 : Generator capacity [kVA]

    pfG : Generator power factor (0.85)

    P : Output of load [kW]

    : Efficiency of load

    a : Coefficienct considering load factor, demand factor, margin of capacity, etc

    (Motor: 0.9, Non-motor: 1.0)

    4.2 Calculation for Case II

    The EDG shall also be capable of starting the largest motor (Bearing pump motor for STG

    Unit 1, 150kW or 176.47kVA) as the remaining loads are running;

    Where,

    PG2 : Generator capacity [kVA]

    0W : Summation of operating load [kVA] (938.25-176.47=761.77kVA)

    Lcos : Power factor during starting of the largest motor (0.25)

    K : Overload capacity of generator (1.1)
